Republican Leaders and MeckGOP reiterate their support for Matt Osman to defeat Tim Smith for Mecklenburg County District Court

Charlotte, N.C. - Republicans across Mecklenburg County were shocked on Tuesday to open their mailboxes to find a campaign mailer from Democrat Tim Smith proclaiming that "leading Republicans" considered him the "Right Choice" for District Court (CLICK HERE FOR THE MAILER). 

 

The mailer was clearly meant to deceive Republican voters into believing that Tim Smith has the support of the Republican Party and conservative leaders across Mecklenburg County.   This is simply not true.

 

MeckGOP Chairman Rob Bryan stated, "Matt Osman is exactly the kind of conservative, ethical judge the citizens of Mecklenburg County need presiding over District Court.   In the decision between incumbent Tim Smith and Matt Osman, the choice is absolutely clear, and the MeckGOP is proud to join the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police, CharMeck CourtWatch, the Charlotte Observer and the Charlotte Post in supporting Matt Osman to replace Tim Smith."

 

MeckGOP Vice-Chair Claire Mahoney also commented, "Frankly, I'm concerned about the MeckGOP being associated with Tim Smith in any shape, manner or form.  Tim Smith is the only sitting judge in North Carolina to have been reprimanded TWICE by the Judicial Standards Commission, and this kind of deceitful campaign mailing shows a continuation of the poor judgment that he has exhibited so often in the past."
