CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
Well, 2010 is finally here and we have a great opportunity to turn our state and county red once again. Here is some of what your MeckGOP Executive Board has been doing and how you can help.
1. Recruiting. The Executive Board has been working with various town and city, county and state elected officials to seek out strong candidates for the upcoming elections. We hope you will be hearing exciting announcements over the next few weeks. In addition, we have been developing a longer term plan to help encourage and prepare possible candidates for future elections. Please let us know if you know prospective candidates that we should be talking to (maybe even you!).
2. Precinct Organization; Voter Turnout. We are continuing to build our precinct organization to help our Get-Out-The-Vote efforts. Republican turnout was 30% in 2009 - higher than the percentage turnout of Democrats or unaffiliated - BUT not high enough in a county where Republicans are outnumbered almost 2 to 1. We have to work harder to get Republican and conservative unaffiliated voters to the polls. We need more VOLUNTEERS in our precinct organization to make this happen - we have great software and training sessions for volunteers. Please contact Scott Miller at GOPScott@carolina.rr.com if you want to help.
3. Volunteers. We have a number of key areas that we need volunteer help. In particular, we need folks to help with voter registration - we have been in touch with Senator Burr's staff as well and are working to get transplanted voters registered. We also continue to need members for our finance committee. We will continue to update you on volunteer roles through the website. Please visit us online or contact Cami Bambini at cbambini@bellsouth.net and she will get you (and your friends) plugged in.
4. Local GOP Groups. We are continuing to work with our local affiliated groups to build a strong, unified and organized county GOP. Get involved in these groups and you will keep updated on how to help in 2010!
5. Fundraising. We continue to need money for our Headquarters and technology needs. We still owe money on our new website - please check it out and leave a donation! We are looking to broaden our giving base to allow us to focus on the long term building of the MeckGOP. Please help us with a recurring donation. Plans are also in the works for our 2010 Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner and we look forward to giving you more information soon.
6. Communication/Technology. We hope to continue to keep you updated on our activities. Please stay in touch via our website - www.meckgop.com and check out our various social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter and the MeckGOP Online Community). Please sign up for our newsletter and get your friends to sign up too. Please contact Gideon Moore at gmoore@fsblegal.com if you have technology skills that you would like to volunteer.
Please remember that 2010 is a key year for control of our state. If we can take back the state house we will control the redistricting process that will set district boundaries (including Congress) for the next 10 years. This is a great opportunity and we need your help. I look forward to working with you and making 2010 a great year for Republicans. Thanks for your support.
