REVIEWS
Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple
"These books have a logical, clear format. All books
feature clear, crisp photographs."
Rock On!: A Look at Geology Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "An important moment in the history of geology or a
fictional child's encounter with the world of rocks serves as a lively opener
in these titles, and is followed by clear information on related science and
scientists."
Cool Baking Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "A retro look and appetizing photos are among the best
features of these information-rich books. Safety, tools, supervision, and
ingredients are addressed in introductory sections, followed by seven easy
recipes per volume. Children are encouraged to try variations on the recipes
and to experiment, but to seek adult guidance where appropriate...these
titles will be excellent for teaching procedural writing and are fun to check
out..."
Military Heroes Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "Real events characterized by danger and excitement
introduce readers to each individual's character. The rush of literary
adrenalin will hook readers immediately and keep them enthralled until the
end. Given the dynamic topic of the series and each volume's appealing
layout, these books are likely to attract reluctant readers. In addition,
sources are plentiful and well-documented, making the titles suitable for
research projects. Other material is available on these subjects, but this
series is noteworthy for its accessible writing, appealing layout, and
high-interest history."
Nocturnal Animals Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "This high-interest series spotlights a variety of
species in diverse geographic locations. The animals represented will be
unfamiliar to most readers and will consequently be that much more
interesting. Many of the photographs are dark, but that is acceptable
considering the nature of the subjects, and is consistent with the mysterious
tone maintained in the books. In general, this is a well-organized and
balanced series that will appeal to young researchers."
Xtreme Predators Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "This series lives up to its billing, with lots of
bared teeth, blood-covered snouts, and impressive skulls. The "Xtreme quotes," often from
survivors of animal attacks, add an intensity that kids will love. Each book
also provides an example of how these dangerous animals have been harmed by
humans, matching gruesomeness with gruesomeness-all in full color. These
books are sure to be in high demand."
Xtreme Sports Review from School Library Journal, Series Made Simple "Outstanding, motion-filled photographs show a wide
range of emotions on the faces of enthusiasts as they attempt such feats as
jumping from cliffs or biking in impossible terrain. Both men and women
perform the death-defying stunts. "Extreme quotes" in fact boxes lend
excitement while contributing pertinent information or admonishments. This
series could be used for short reports or as a jumping-off spot for further
research." |
