SEPTEMBER GREETINGS
COLLEEN CAMBELL

Welcome all returning and new members to the 2012-2013 season of NEPTA. I hope that your summer has been wonderfully restorative, whether spent with friends and family, in pursuit of new artistic endeavors or favorite hobbies, experiencing the beauty of the New England landscape or simply enjoying time to reflect and relax.

The end of summer is always a little bittersweet, this year in particular because we have lost a dear member and former NEPTA president, Peg Bachelder. Peg was a remarkably giving and gifted individual. It was only at her memorial service that I learned that she was an accomplished violinist as well as a pianist. Peg would truly rather have talked about others than herself, one of the countless ways in which she inspired students, friends and family alike. In her own lovely way, Peg continues to give to NEPTA in spirit through a memorial fund established for NEPTA in her name. If you would like to make a contribution please make the check out to "New England Piano Teachers' Association" (or NEPTA) and write "Margaret Bachelder Fund" in the memo line. Mail it to NEPTA c/o Lindsey Robb, 40 Montvale St.  #3, Roslindale, MA 02130.

We have an exciting year in store for us, beginning with NEPTA's first Speaker Series Event on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 9:30am at the first Parish Church of Watertown. Our distinguished guest speaker, Jane Magrath, world renowned clinician, author and pianist, will present "Motivation in Piano Study and Performance.  Stop. Step back. Refresh: Choosing the Right Repertoire at the Right Time." Please be sure to mark your calendars with the complete roster of NEPTA guest speakers and master teachers, so wonderfully organized by Shann Wood, Chair of our Program Committee. As always, visitors are welcome throughout the year to all program events for a fee of $10. However this first meeting includes free admission for all guests.

Please plan to arrive early for NEPTA's monthly music sale beginning at 9am, managed so beautifully by Ruth Ross and benefitting NEPTA's Scholarship Fund.

I look forward to seeing you all at our first meeting on Monday, September 24th!

Best regards,

Colleen Campbell

President

NEPTA TEACHERS' RECITAL

Announcing the third annual NEPTA Teachers' Recital to take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 6:30pm at the Rivers School Conservatory, Weston, MA. NEPTA members are invited to perform solo piano as well as four-hand, two-piano and piano ensemble works, with a time limit of 10 minutes per performer. The concert in the beautiful A. Ramón Rivera Hall will be followed by a festive wine and cheese reception. Suggested donations of $15 will raise money for the Susan B. Demb Teacher Enrichment Fund. If you are interested in playing, please send your name and the piece's composer, title, and duration to Irina Gelman at gelmanpiano@aol.com by October 31.

IN THE MAIL
By now you should have all received the 2012-2013 Program Booklet and Membership Directory beautiful prepared by Lindsey Robb. As many NEPTA members know, this is considered a valuable reference tool and NEPTA is very fortunate to have Lindsey's help in all capacities. Please review all dates and locations, and mark them on your busy calendars.
SUSAN B. DEMB GRANT REPORT

Dalcroze The first recipient of NEPTA's Susan B. Demb Teacher Enrichment Grant, Linda Gatzke, was so enthralled with her experience that she would have us all apply to the same program tomorrow! The grant can of course be applied to any of several dozen worthy pedagogical programs for which you may apply in 2014. Click here to enjoy reading Linda's fun report.

MIRIAM PIZER AWARD

The Miriam Pizer Award, created in memory of Miriam Pizer, was established for students in Grades K-5 who are in need of assistance for lesson tuition or other essential expenses. Each teacher may submit one student's name for a lottery drawing. The prize is $250 and the submission deadline is Oct. 15.

PARKING REMINDER
PARKING METER -COLLEEN CAMPBELL Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish church and thus eliminating any "free parking."

The good news is that the metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
