C. 6 Billion

That is a lot of cards purchased. Save some money this year and make your own. Plus, handmade cards are better anyways, ask any mom.

World Card Making DayDay
October 2, 2010

World Card Making Day was founded in 2006 to bring card makers together at the beginning of the busiest card-making season of the year. It was formerly known as National Card Making Day, but due to the positive response it received and the worldwide popularity of card making, the holiday is now known as World Card Making Day. It is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October.

Did you know that...?

  • 1 in 6 U.S. households participate in card making
  • 86% of scrapbookers also create handmade cards
  • 92% of paper crafters create cards more than any other type of project
Want to join in on the fun? Here are a few ideas to help you celebrate World Card Making Day in style!

Charitable card making: Make cards to cheer up hospital patients, encourage soldiers, or offer holiday wishes to nursing home residents. (Try the Stand & Salute cartridge for patriotic cards and welcome home signs!) Click Here for Stand & Salute

Holiday card making: Play some Christmas tunes, serve tasty holiday treats (such as cookies and candy canes), and put on your favorite Christmas movie to have a holiday card-making extravaganza. There's nothing as satisfying as knowing all of your holiday cards are made before the hustle and bustle of the season sets in.

Strength in numbers party: Stock up on cards for the coming year in organized, assembly line fashion. Each guest is responsible for one part of the process, (making card blanks, adding the sentiment, finishing touches with ribbon, etc.) making a large number of cards in no time flat. Add variation by keeping the same card design but changing the sentiment for different occasions. Divide up the cards at the end of the party so everyone walks away with a variety of cards to use in the months ahead.

Crafting Tip of the Day Tip
Great tips for using Silhouette 12x12 Vinyl

This one's a real " Woo Hoo!" moment for all Cricut Owners. Silhouette America has manufactured a 12x12 vinyl. And it's compatible with the Cricut! This material is so popular now for so many different projects. My personal favorite is putting those beautiful quotes up on your wall, but I've also been searching around and have found other amazing projects like making a blackboard out of black vinyl, using vinyl as an outline to create etched glass décor, window clings etc....and it's all so easy! This really opens us up to doing some great projects with both the Cricut and the Silhouette.  We are so excited about these products that we will be bundling our Black Adhesive Vinyl, Transfer Paper, and Home Decor Cartridge with the Cricut Expression Machine at the special price of $268.84. Now, go fill that room with fabulous!

Food for the PoorCharity
Charity of the Month

Craft-e-Corner is proud to announce this month's featured charity, Food for the Poor. This is an organization that has been hard at work saving lives throughout the Caribbean and Central America (Including Haiti) since 1982. Food for the Poor raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need. They are a faith based organization, and more than 96% of all donations received go directly to programs that benefit the poor.

On October 2nd (World Card Making Day), Food for the Poor will be holding their 5th annual "Walk for Hunger". Participants can form a team and walk at Lynn University in Boca Raton Florida, OR walk in their own community. You can register as a team or alone, and their website has all the information you will need to start fundraising. We encourage you to participate in any way that you can, or if you're busy making cards that day, maybe just stop in and take a peek at Food for the Poor's e-cards available on their website. Now that's a fun and rewarding project idea!

The funds Craft-e-Corner is providing will supply a thirsty village with a water pump, and a poor family with a goat and food for 3 months. If you would like to be part of saving the lives of those still suffering in Haiti and throughout Central America and the Caribbean, please visit their gift catalog on their website at www.foodforthepoor.org
