Hines Middle School Beautifies the City
Students, parents, and teachers from Hines Middles School recently got together to beautify their environment and plant flowers at the school. The project was sponsored by the Hines PTA, who set a goal of making the campus more inviting through landscaping. The event was coordinated with the Math Fest and took place April 30 at the school. The coordination brought kids and parents from other schools to Hines for the all day event. The school also coordinated with the Hines Middle School Junior Honor Society to help fulfilling their community service requirement. Additionally, parents, students, and teachers were involved.
The school's corporate sponsor, WM Jordan suggested the PTA contact a local landscaper, Eric Bailey, for the design and purchase of the plants. Mr. Bailey provided the plan material as a donation and as did others, including W.M. Jordan, the PTA, and the kids even fundraised for the project- paying $2.00 to wear a crazy hat to school!
Everyone came together on April 30 and worked for about five hours to complete the project. They planted rose bushes and two trees outside the art room, giving students a new medium to sketch. Each morning, they walk up to a beautiful entrance, a little more proud of their school. Maybe the most special thing that happened that day is the kids worked hard to change their environment; giving them a little ownership in their world.
