CSX Corporation Helps Preserve a Greener Future

The Newport News Green Foundation, a nonprofit which works to works to acquire, establish, maintain, and preserve green spaces in within the City of Newport News, held a ribbon cutting for their newest property.  The 0.38 acre site, located at 437 Harpersville Road, exists in a natural wooded state and provides a wealth of benefits to the citizens of Newport News, including making the city more beautiful, protecting area waterways from pollution and making the city safer, cleaner, and more enjoyable.

The property's landscaping was funded through a grant provided by CSX Corporation.  At the event, held on March 15, 2011, CSX's Regional Vice President for State Government Relations, addressed those in attendance and reminded them of Newport News' strong history of rail, including transportation of materials to the shipbuilding industry.

Members of City Council, including Mayor Price and Vice Mayor McMillan, participated in the cermony, opening the property for the benefit of the citizens of Newport News.  Delegate Glenn Oder was also in attendance.

"We are extremely fortunate to have corporate citizens such as CSX who are dedicated to the environment and to making this area a better place for all of us and for future generations," said Mayor Price.

The project was funded through a $5,000 grant donation by CSX Corporation and landscaping was installed by Orlando's Landscaping, a Newport News business.
