Green Foundation on the Front Page

By Nikki Moore

On July 17, 2010, the Daily Press ran an article about the Newport News Green Foundation. The article was featured on the front page as the main story of the day. The author, Cory Nealon, serves as the Environmental Reporter for the newspaper.

The article introduced readers to what the Newport News Green Foundation does in the community. It also featured pictures of youth volunteers in the Green Corps foundation mulching 622 South Avenue. "They're (image-conscious businesses) going to see that we're an environmentally aware city," Amanda Wroten said. "People see our signs, but they don't know who we are. They think we're with the city's parks department." Wroten is the Executive Director of the Newport News Green Foundation.

This article helped get more publicity of the Green Foundation out in the community, as well as provide readers with a greater awareness of the need for green space in the city.  The Foundation has already received new donations and volunteer requests as a result of the article.
