Green Corps
Do you have kids who are interested in the environment or want to make a difference? Then the Green Corps is for them!
The Green Corps is a service learning and career education program sponsored by the Newport News Green Foundation. Green Corps members have the opportunity to become involved in three primary areas:
- Community Service and Activity - Help plan and lead service learning projects and experience outdoor activities while developing leadership skills.
- Environmental Education - Help develop educational exhibits and participate in projects.
- Career Opportunities - Experience careers first-hand related to the environment, ecology, conservation and more.
Membership in the Green Corps is FREE and open to college and high school students (14-21), and adult participation is welcome! Upcoming events include a trip to VIMS to learn about marine ecology, a rain barrel workshop at the Virginia Living Museum, and a summer camping trip. In the past the group has visited an organic farm, bird banding station, compost facility, planted pine seedlings and participated in environmental landscape plantings.
For more information on joining the Green Corps contact the Green Foundation office at (757) 597-2842 or email info@newportnewsgreenfoundation.org.
