HELP SPREAD

THE WORD!

Store buyers are considering new products around this time of the year. Ask them to carry Hot Dog Chili or Chili Soup. Our Product Request Cards have all the info that stores need to order CSHDC. Want some cards? Click here to email Nickie or call 304-847-2942.

'TIS THE SEASON TO HUNT CHILI

If you can't find our hot dog chili at your  store, stock often runs lower this time of year because stores don't consider winter to be hot dog season! Ask the staff for help.

Q&A

How can I tell when a tub of chili was made?

We use the Julian Dating system. It is a 5-digit date code on our packaging. Example: a tub with the code "11001" means it was made Jan. 1, 2011. The first two digits -- 11 -- are the year and the next three numbers are days 001- 365 (January 1-Dec 31).

5 Ways
To Have

A Sweet Day!

1. Instead of going out to an expensive restaurant, try having a candlelit dinner with your favorite foods.

2. Make gift certificates for a back massage, a special bubble bath or a foot rub.

3. Make heart-shaped cupcakes by putting a marble in the muffin tin on the outside of the paper cupcake cup.

Super Party Tips
For The Big Game

Are you ready for the Super Bowl this weekend? If you're having a party to watch the game, we found some handy tips on About.com that will make your bash fun and easy to manage!

Nachos

1. Plan a buffet with simple, portable foods. Custard Stand Hot Dog Chili and Chili Soup With Beef And Beans are perfect for your game day menu! Click here for some great party recipes!  Or pick up a few Party Packs (available only at the restaurants in Webster Springs and Flatwoods). Don't forget that we can ship chili, too! Click here to see where it's available and for the order form.

2. Set up as many televisions as you have available.

3. Have one room set aside without a TV for partygoers who aren't interested in the game and would like a quieter place to talk.

4. Set up one room with a TV for serious football fans who don't want to be distracted by idle chatter.

Simmer tip5. Plan on plenty of beverages! With all of those beer commercials bombarding your guests, they'll have a strong thirst for the suds.

6. Don't worry too much about decorating since most eyes will be on the TV. Use team colors, footballs, jerseys, goal post and pennants.

7. Have lots of paper towels, napkins and rug cleaner handy.

8. Make sure your guests have a ride home if they've celebrated a little too much!

WV Artisan Fair
Show In Eastern Panhandle Gets A Taste Of Chili

Gretta and ShannonNickie (above, left) and Shannon headed to Inwood near Martinsburg for the WV Wine and Artisan Show on Dec. 3-4. They served more than 250 samples of the new Custard Stand Chili Soup with Beef & Beans.

Gretta (McAvoy) Lusk (right, in photo, with Shannon), who grew up in Webster County but lives in Inwood, stopped by. She remembers Elsie's Dairy Bar and the taste of the chili dogs. Gretta said that CSHDC tastes just like it should.

Show-goers said they loved the mild, almost sweet taste of the CSHDC and were surprised that the Chili Soup had home-style taste with a slight kick of heat.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Linda Cowger, Chili Mama

Linda CowgerLinda Cowger, Dee's mom, has worked at The Custard Stand longer than any other employee. She's been here since we opened in 1991!

Her current job in the plant is, in her words, "a little bit of everything!" Her official title is Quality Control.

Linda is married to Aaron and has three children: Dee, Lee and Pennie, and seven grandchildren.

She enjoys word puzzles, movies, spending time with her kids and grandkids, and her pool. Linda sometimes mentions retiring, but we sure hope not! We would be lost without her.
