New School Year At Escuela Del Mundo Welcome Students And Parents!
|
In the Escuela del Mundo, we begin a new school cycle with a lot of spirit and energy -- also content with what we've accomplished in the past school years. This new cycle we are happy to share with the community our new projects, activities and events as we also welcome returning and new families.
This month of September, besides celebrating the Independence of Mexico through school and civic activities, we will be celebrating the "International Day of the teaching literacy and Reading" that is honored through UNESCO. At Escuela del Mundo, we believe firmly that reading is a fundamental tool for life and therefore we will be carrying out activities to promote literature in all the schools.
As a certified Green School, we will continue with the activities and workshops in gardening, ecology, recycled art as we do throughout the year. NEW to the project is the collection of paper in our school. We invite the community to bring to old school books, magazines, any paper to be recycled. Thanks beforehand by its support to this and our many ecology programs. Each newsletter we hope to share more on how we as a school and community participate in building a better and healthier future for all.
Although our preschool classroom is already full, Escuela del Mundo is still accepting enrollment in Elementary (1st through 6th grade). Families interested in short-term enrollment (minimum of 3 months) are also welcomed. Contact us for more information or to sign up as a Volunteer.
To help a local families in need, contact the school about donating to our Sponsorship/Financial Assitance Program. Local phone is 311-258-4441 / escueladelmundo@yahoo.com.mx / facebook Escuela del Mundo Nayarit
Back From The Brink

 | Summer and her mom Joselyn with mama turtle |
The Olive Ridley sea turtles are coming in to nest on the beaches of San Pancho in record numbers this year. To date, we have recorded 658 nests, which is 127 more nests than last year at this time. Illegal poaching of the eggs continues to be a problem approximately 30 nests have been lost to poachers so far this year. Poachers sell the eggs to restaurants and bars (mostly in inland cities) that promote them for their supposed (but unfounded) aphrodisiacal qualities. Olive Ridley sea turtles are endangered in Mexico and are protected by law with severe penalties for violations, including steep fines and up to nine years imprisonment. The Mexican Federal Penal Code declares in Article 420 that it is illegal to capture, harm or kill any species of sea turtle or marine mammal or to collect or possess any of their products (eggs, ivory, skin) or sub-products (items made with any part of the animal). Despite these laws, the trade in sea turtle eggs continues relentlessly. The volunteers of Grupo Ecologico de la Costa Verde carry special government issued permits that allow them to patrol the beach every night to collect the eggs and incubate them in nurseries. With education, dedication and perseverance we hope to end the culture turtle egg poaching with this generation and instead teach the children to enjoy and conserve the sea turtles for all future generations.

Top 5 Foods For Simple Detoxing
|
As the fall approaches, now is a good time to start thinking about treating your body to a gentle cleanse. The changing seasons often inspire a fresh, healthy start. Yet, for many an intense detox might be too much to take on. The good news? There are some simple (and tasty!) foods that you can include in your diet regularly that support you body with gentle and natural cleansing. Be sure to add these 5 foods to your fall shopping list!
1. Lemons Starting your day with warm water and lemon juice is one of the easiest and effective things you can do to assist your body's natural detoxification processes. A squeeze of lemon juice is a powerful way to get your health back on track! Lemons jump-start digestion by stimulating the release of enzymes and Vitamin C helps convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can be easily eliminated from the body. Lemons also help stimulate the liver and purify our blood.
2. Garlic Raw garlic is truly amazing. It has powerful antiviral, antiseptic and antibiotic properties. Garlic helps stimulate the liver into producing detoxification enzymes that help filter toxins from the digestive system. Add garlic to stir-fry, salad dressings, soups, etc.
2. Beets Beets are beautiful, not only because of their deep red/pink color, but also because they're superstars nutritionally! They are full of nutrients and are a great source of vitamins B3, B6 and C, plus beta-carotene, magnesium, calcium, zinc, and iron. They assist our liver and gall bladder in breaking down toxins, and their fiber is great for digestion and elimination. Try adding some shredded raw beets to your salad for a cleansing blast.
3. Cilantro Hooray for this amazing herb! Cilantro is the best for ridding the body of heavy metals (the bad kind that can lead to depression, cancer, hormone and thyroid problems, and lots more). The chemical compounds in cilantro actually bind to these toxins, loosening them from the blood, tissues, and organs and assisting with their elimination from the body.
4. Apples Apples also give us lots of fiber and nutrients and help stimulate bile production, which the liver uses to release toxins. The soluble fiber in apples, pectin, is helpful in removing heavy metals and food additives from our bodies. Be sure to eat only organic apples, as conventional apples are some of the most heavily-sprayed foods around.
5. Green Veggies When you think cleansing, it's important to look to chlorophyll. Chlorophyll rids the body of environmental toxins, heavy metals, herbicides, and pesticides. Chlorophyll hides in green foods -- leafy greens, broccoli, cucumbers, celery, sprouts, the list goes on. Greens are the essential building blocks of any healthy and vibrant diet.

Birding With Luis |
What is coming next season for S.P.B.O. As the freshly feathered San Pancho Bird Observatory (SPBO) fledges our team is working to bring birding in San Pancho to the next level. Our goal as an organization is to advance bird conservation through science, education and community development. In order to achieve our goals of community-based biodiversity conservation we have planned a number of actions such as: Birding tours will be provided by SPBO and no longer in the name of Birding San Pancho which was more of a commercial venture. For the time being, the website www.birdingsanpancho.com will remain online to provide users with information regarding tours but eventually this information will migrate to the non-profit SPBO´s website www.birdingsanpancho.org We will be training new field guides, preferably local or from the region so that we can build the capacity to increase the volume of birdwatchers in our region meeting the goal of sustainable economic development. Weekly bilingual bird-id lectures will be offered at Entreamigos; these lectures will be oriented both to visitors and locals. Lectures will be arranged by bird family or groups of birds by habitat so that more people in our community are able to identify birds by sight and by ear! These will be FUN!!! Volunteers will be enrolled in a constant effort bird-monitoring program which will allow us to estimate bird richness and density but also vegetation structure composition; this information will be crucial to inform decision makers on land management to promote better restoration and land use practices. SPBO is creating informative signs at head trails and providing hotels and restaurants with customized brochures that feature maps/checklist to birding trails. These will allow for tourists to be aware of the incredibly rich bird diversity of San Pancho making our town a more attractive destination for birdwatchers which will create more flow for businesses in town. So, as you can see there is a lot happening and being prepared for a great 2012-2013 birding season! If you want more information on these programs and want to support:
