La Voz de San Pancho

Hola to our 756 La Voz Newsletter readers in San Pancho and around the world.

It has been almost a year since I became SanPanchoLife.com Executive Director.  In that year we have grown our readers from 500 to over 700.  We launched a new Facebook page and a Twitter page to help drive readers to the website.   There are many new businesses and homes advertising and there have been great events this last year including entreAmigos Birthday celebration; Art Walk; San Pancho Music Festival just to name a few.

After the flood and losing our bridge the town rallied and did a great job of making the best of a tough season.  Many homes and businesses said we had a great season last year considering the difficult recovery from the flooding.

We continue to look for ways to improve the website and La Voz de San Pancho.  Huge plans are underway for changes that will increase the success of SanPanchoLife.com.

I have enjoyed being a part of the San Pancho Life team this last year.  Recently my husband and I relocated back to the Northwest from San Diego and my consulting work has changed from part-time to full-time which will not allow me to continue giving the time and focus that SanPanchoLife.com requires to continue to grow.  Thank you to all of the newsletter contributors, and to the residents of San Pancho for welcoming me into the village.  I will miss working with you, but will continue to visit San Pancho when I am in the area.

I would like to introduce our new Executive Director for SanPanchoLife.com, Kimberly King.   I have a lot of faith in Kimberly, and I know she is going to be very successful.  Kimberly and her family live full time in San Pancho and will open an office for SanPanchoLife.com which will provide another way for visitors to be directed to the website!

A little about Kimberly and her impressive background: Kimberly has worked as a Sales Manager at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa handling group sales, she is owner of King's Cruises, booking cruise reservations for Individuals and Groups.  She is owner and has managed for 15+ years the ABC Mountain Accommodations which operates today as a successful Vacation and Property Management Company.  She has worked as a Travel Agent for 20 years and is Owner of Rancho Riviera Reservations which handled vacation rentals in San Pancho and developed the web site of www.sanpanchovacation.com

With all of this experience Kimberly is a fantastic fit for taking the next step with SanPanchoLife.com and growing the success for our businesses, rentals and bringing visitors to the village of San Pancho.

It is not Adios! But Hasta Luego!

Hola San Pancho,

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am very much looking forward to becoming a part of the San Pancho Life team. I will be focusing on bringing quality content for the enjoyment of our readers, and value to our advertisers. My many years of experience in the travel industry will serve me well in expanding and building on the success of SanPancholife. San Pancho has a lot to offer, both visitors and residents, and we look forward to growing together.

Back From The Brink

Turtle season is going strong here in San Pancho! We have collected 626 nests so far this season which makes this our second best year ever.  Our incubation nursery is full to capacity right now and overflowing on to the porches, while our recently repaired beach nursery also contains over 100 nests waiting to hatch.  Eggs that were collected

turtlesin early August are bursting from their boxes and we are releasing between 500 and 2,000 hatchlings on the beach every night at sunset.  Watching those tiny creatures crawl towards the great Pacific Ocean as the sun sinks into the sea is a beautiful sight to behold and we welcome you to join on the beach any night around 8pm to be a part of this inspiring event.  Once in the water, the turtle hatchlings will swim for about 7 days straight without eating or sleeping in order to reach the Pacific Current which will carry them to big patches of sea grass in the ocean where they will stay for up to 5 years.  It will be another ten years, however, until the females will breed and return to the same beaches where they were born to repeat the cycle again.

Grupo Ecologico de la Costa Verde began collecting and incubating nests in 1991 so, it is fascinating to think that most of the adult turtles nesting on the beaches right now were hatchlings released by Grupo Eco in the beginning years. It is just as inspiring to think that hatchlings released tonight will hopefully return here to San Pancho in 2026 for our children and our grandchildren to enjoy. .

A huge thank you to all our awesome and dedicated volunteers who give their blood, sweat and tears to make this turtle project possible.  They are out there on the beach in the rain, the sun, the lightning and the waves nearly 24 hours a day keeping the endangered Olive Ridley turtles of San Pancho safe for another year.                                                                                                                                  By: Joslin Bertrand

Notes From The Ranch

It is HOT! And my floor fan broke yesterday. Someone tell me why it had a plastic nut to hold the fan blades on? So I McGuyver-ed it with Gorilla Glue and toothpicks. And it works! I am feeling the love. I was used to replacing broken things when I lived in the States but I am totally getting into repairing things here.

Jason is here visiting and we are working hard every day to get Sazón de Tamara open and serving amazing food! Jason will be here for another week so we have lots of time to test recipes. Thank goodness the gym is so close. We tried sardines in tomato sauce for lunch yesterday. NOT. Bleah. Unless you request sardines, there will be none on the menu. Bleah, again.

The kitchen is coming together thanks to Lee and Judy, my stove angels. Do you know how expensive professional stoves are? I could add a room on to the house for the same price. I'll have to keep dreaming because I really, really want a big, shiny sliver professional stove. Some little girls played pretend school, I played pretend restaurant. And my first job, at 12 years old, was peeling potatoes and running them through a manual french fry slicer into 5 gallon buckets. I made 25 cents per 5 gallons. You will not get rich running a restaurant, it is a labor of love. But I miss running Gallo's and it is time to spread my wings. Plus, I cook twice a day anyway, I might as well make more and serve more people! But don't expect me to be serving anyone but Kar and Enrique breakfast at 5:30am.

I need a vacation before season starts and Sazón opens. I'm a bit testy with the heat and nothing to do. Maybe a "vuelta" from here to Guadalajara, stopping in Jala for pottery on the way there and then back this way through Talpa and Mascota with an overnight at Rancho de Rio.  4 days, not more and I'll be new. I need to soak in the river. Or at least go soak my head somewhere. Ain't pretty at my house right now.

I found the hens secret nest and the eggs are huge! We are up to 12 hens. Telly Savalas is busy. The goats are back in Villa Morelos. Why didn't someone tell me billy goats smell so bad??? Next time, frolicky little cute young 'uns, please.

The bird, Chuy, has learned how to say more words,

some not worth printing. Thanks, Enrique.

I am still freezing guayaba, the zucchini of Mexico. But I'll be glad for the fruit in the winter. This weekend starts San Pancho Days. Oh, joy. Fireworks from 5:00am til 3:00am. Thumping disco music til 3:00am. I remember one gringo, years ago, that owned Casa Fiesta at the time, went to the plaza at 3:00am one night to pay them to turn the music down or off. There was no one there but the guy running the noise and he refused. Then there was the gringo that didn't like his neighbors roosters so he bought all of them. The neighbor bought more...and so life goes on here. Breathe, accept what I cannot change, and give thanks.

Things I am grateful for: earplugs, recipe testing, stretchy workout clothes, obnoxious little bratty birds and my family.
Blessings, Tamara

Birding in San Pancho with Luis

A San Pancho Bird Observatory could be on its way!!!
The concept of a Bird Observatory is a very successful one.  San Pancho is already becoming a destination for birdwatchers, here we can count up to 100 species of birds in one day during the right time of the year, with the proper skills and at the right moments and right spots but yes, there is a great birdwatching  potential.
A Bird Observatory can be sort of a station that is designated to identify or find certain species of animals, where research and environmental education on different ecological aspects can be done and definitely a great asset to have in our town.
The San Pancho Birding Club and Birding San Pancho are working together to put together local, national and international efforts to make this dream happen. We are certain that an initiative like this will not only help to improve our environmental quality and awareness, it could also help to develop new businesses related to ecotourism and definitely bring more "green tourism" to our town.
I will let you know more about this initiative soon, if you are interested please contact Luis Morales to birdingsanpancho@gmail.com
Enjoy the Fall!!!
