Can you imagine San Pancho 20 Years from now?
|
I do. And I would like to share my vision of the future San Pancho with everybody who reads this column and with everyone I can approach. San Pancho is a community I love, the town that saw my second son born and that embraces, nourishes and supports my family and life constantly. San Pancho is a fertile ground in all aspects and as I often tell to new comers: in this town you really need to be careful of what you wish because it will come true. San Pancho´s Original Intention Intentions are important in defining the destiny of beings. San Pancho was meant to be a model town when Mexico`s president (1970-1976) Luis Echeverria first came and planned it. AND, although (perhaps?) it did not become the model Luis Echeverria wanted, we can confidently say San Pancho is a model community in many aspects: we have a Hospital that has been a keystone in the development of town, infrastructure and land for education and productive systems, public spaces and a urban design that has allowed the convergence of different cultures coexisting with amazingly beautiful natural surroundings; individuals, groups and companies both local, national and international willing to support the education, economy and ecology of this town.... I could go on and on. Friends, we are lucky to live in this town and being part of this moment of its history. Yes, we have challenges as a community and negative aspects to figure out but those are precisely the ones that set up the guideline of what needs to be done. I believe we can continue to create this model together: young, old, boys, girls, locals, nationals, Latinos, Europeans, Americans, Canadians, hippies, developers, realtors, retirees, volunteers, ecologists, politicians... As I write this I get the feeling this is probably the time to open a forum to blend in our visions for the future, to acknowledge the accomplishments and to learn from the mistakes that have been part of the story and dream called San Pancho. Enjoy the summer, until next time!

Notes from the Ranch
| Life abounds at the ranches! We have 3 new goats to keep the weeds down. And I admit, they are so darned cute to watch. I've named then Larry, Curly and Moe. They really are the 3 Stooges. If there is trouble to be found, rest assured they are in the middle of it. They seem to get along with the chickens. I looked out the window the other day and not only were the chickens, the rooster and the goats all laying down in the shade but the cat had joined them. Where is my camera when I need it? Oh yes, safely stored away in its case in the drawer. Argh.
With no crops planted right now I have some free time. It is nice to have slower mornings. The animals still all need to be fed and watered but I don't feel the pull of the garden calling me. I have time for coffee, gym and reading. Not for long though. We are opening a gourmet take out/deli here in San Pancho! "Sazón de Tamara" will be open by the time everyone wanders back home from their summer travels. I'm very excited. Sauces, pesto, salsa, freash cheeses, agua frescas, my yummy cooking.....I'll keep you posted. We have a new parrakeet and a new puppy. The bird, Chuy, is a tiny little monster that I found in the middle of the street after a big storm, he must have blown out of the nest. He didn't have many feathers but he is growing and becoming obnoxious quickly. Add his noise to the 2 dogs, 1 cat, the rooster, the goats and the hens for morning wake up! Who needs an alarm clock! Enrique is teaching him swear words and Kar carries him around on his shoulder. Spoiled BRAT. The new puppy, Pancha, is the sweetest girl. She is a Rottweiller and at 8 months old already weighs 70 pounds. I'm going to have to buy dog food in bulk! So far she has consumed one pair of shoes, my leather gloves, a garden hose and a cell phone. Nothing that can't be replaced. She was a "gift" from a friend of ours that could not take care of her. She has the sweetest disposition and gets along with all of the other beasts. I have a soft spot for Rotts as my dad used to raise them when I was a baby. My first chew toy was a Rott. Great dogs IF you train them. So we are taking lots of walk on lead and she learns quickly. Thank God she isn't a puller. With that weight she would pull my shoulder right out of it's socket! Juno isn't very happy with the new addition to the mutt family but I've let her remain Alpha Dog and she is setting rules and being la Jefa. Karstan is starting University on Monday! I don't know which of us is more excited. A new chapter to his life. We have convinced him to live at home for another year. That way I know he eats on a regular basis. Yes, still a mom. The summer is almost over. I can't believe how fast it has passed. I don't know if I'm acclimating or if this summer hasn't been as hot as in the past. We've not used the air conditioning in the bedroom once. Although I do admit to taking an occasional 4:00pm drive with the car air conditioning on full blast. I've found the yummiest ice creams and fruit waters in Sayulita. The shop is called "Wakiki" and is right in main street a bit before the plaza, opposite side of the street. I had a Kiwi/Alfalfa water the other day that was out of this world. Stop by and try their goodies. Life goes on in it's flawed perfection. I am thankful for all of it. The good, the scary, the not so good. But here we are, loving each other and taking time every day for hugs. Things I am thankful for: Sunday river bathing, amazing sunsets, love in all forms and my Enrique. Blessings, Tamara
