July 1, 2011
Hola to our 735 La Voz Newsletter readers in San Pancho and around the world.
San Pancho and the area survived Hurricane Beatriz which was down graded to a tropical storm. The area was hit with some rain over a couple of days, and it caused the first rock and tree slide on Hwy 200 between San Pancho and Sayulita. The slide was cleared in a short time. Please be careful as we enter the heavier rainy season. Drive cautiously and keep your eyes open for slides and other debri in the road.
This Saturday and Sunday (and rumor has it this coming Friday too) there will be no alcohol served or sold in any bar, restaurant or store. This is by law, that when there is an election there is no booze to fog the brains of the voters. So, stock up by Thursday and be safe. You can bring your own to restaurants -- but they cannot serve you.
MEXICO BEATS USA TO WIN CONCACAF GOLD CUP
This last week Mexico beat the US (4-2) in the Championship title of Gold Cup 2011. Mexico reaffirmed the championship title of Gold Cup 2011 in the final, after beating the U.S. 4-2 in a dramatic match at the Rose Bowl, which saw a full house. There was a lot of excitement around this game. Congratulations Mexico!
The town is pretty quiet right now, crews are working to cleaning up all of the big drains and waterways. Garbage collection continues Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Use the dumpsters please. The beach is clean, let's keep it that way! Thanks for your cooperation.

entreAmigos Summer Workshops
|
entreAmigos STILL needs a POOL for the Summer!
Summer workshops are just a few weeks away and entreAmigos is gearing up for one of the biggest workshop offerings ever! Workshop leaders from San Pancho and from all over the world are joining us to give more than 35 different classes to kids, youth and adults. But... the most important part of every summer are the 75 kids that learn to swim or improve their swimming skills, and at this moment we still NEED A SWIMMING POOL! I can understand how 75 kids sounds really scary... and maybe even a bit overwhelming for your backyard pool, and since we all live in the same town its good to be really clear about what that means, so here's the simple truth: THE basic info... Summer classes this year are being held July 18 to August 12th. Kids come in groups of 15, for an hour class. Every class has a certified instructor and at least 1 assistant. Classes are held between 11 and 4 everyday. The class needs access to a bathroom on-site. THE ugh part... The pool will need more maintenance during the weeks that we are present... meaning more chemicals and cleaning. W e are happy to pay these costs. It's likely that a plant or two might get stepped on by an errant foot or very excited kiddo. We are happy to restore them. Your house managers will likely not appreciate the extra responsibility of having us around. We do our very, very best but thats the truth of it. THE benefits... In San Pancho there must be at least 50 swimming pools, maybe not even One (1) local san pancho kid has regular access to the se. So what happens is that parents are afraid of the ocean, don't let their kids near it and so the kids never learn to swim, are afraid of the water and the cycle continues. In San Pancho right now there are about 500 kids. At least half of those kids have learned the basics of swimming because of entreAmigos summer classes. Many of those kids are on their way to being better, stronger swimmers because of our classes. Some are even in the proc ess to be those volunteer lifeguards that you see on the beach. Every year 15-20 parents learn to swim and in so doing break the fear cycle that paralyzes so many others. So... please think about it. Your swimming pool may be totally gorgeous and perfectly clear and definitely for the 4 weeks that we are there it will be a bit cloudy and less than perfect. But a week later... it'll be once again the gorgeous pool that you have always had. Only you will know the impact that you made for the children and families of this community. Sending love and well wishes from entreAmigos. Nicole [email protected] www.entreamigos.org.mx |
New Requirements for Bringing Foreign-Plated Cars into Mexico
| Reprinted from
http://yucalandia.wordpress.com/
YucaLandia/Surviving Yucatan. Steven M. Fry
The Mexican Ministry of Finance and Public Credit has issued a new decree affecting expats bringing foreign plated cars into Mexico:
"New Requirements for Bringing Foreign-Plated Cars into Mexico: Banjercito"
From the Banjercito website:
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) has issued a decree which states that beginning on June 11th, 2011 anyone applying for a temporary import permit for vehicles must make a deposit in the amount determined by the following table:
Vehicle Year Model:
.......Amount to be paid in Mexican Pesos*
2007 and later.......USD $400
2001 until 2006.......USD $300
2000 and earlier.......USD $200
*Peso amounts are based on applicable exchange rate
This deposit is compulsory and can be paid by credit card, debit card, or cash (in US Dollars only).
Users must keep in mind that if the deposit is charged to a credit card, the charge will be made in Mexican Pesos and will be calculated based on the exchange rate of the day on which the payment is made. This deposit will be refunded to the same credit card on the next banking business day after the vehicle is fully returned and based on the exchange rate of that day.
The vehicle must be returned on time and within the time period stated on the temporary import permit. If the vehicle is returned after the stated time period, the entire deposit amount will be transferred to the Office of the Treasury on the day following the expected return date, as allowed by current law."
Last Item:
Another clause in the new updated regulations requires FM2 Rentista and FM3 holders to notify Aduana within 15 days of when they renew their FM2 or FM3, otherwise Aduana is allowed to confiscate/keep these "new" deposits. Aduana's address is listed in Yucalandia's main article on cars in Mexico:

Panchito's Bar + Baja Takeria = Match Made in San Pancho
|
Who wants to cook at home on a hot and steamy Friday or Saturday evening this summer when you can go to Panchito's Bar and have a mouth-watering fish taco with an ice-cold margarita?
On June 17th, Baja Takeria began serving up their locally famous fish and shrimp tacos in their new home, Panchito's Bar. Opening night was a success, with over fifty customers dropping in for dinner, cocktails and good conversation. Panchito's owners, Jeremy & Nicole, along with trusty bar assistant, Rosa, kept the drinks (alcoholic and non) flowing and the music playing while Julio, Jerry and Beatriz fired up the grill and served their tasty tacos. Satisfied guests were even treated to a special appearance by Beatriz's parents and baby Joaquin for opening night.
The menu includes a variety of tacos, from the original Baja beer-batter fried to a succulent garlic or a spicy chiptole grilled version. In addition to fresh Mahi or Shrimp, there is also a smoked Marlin to try out. Burritos and Quesadillas are on the menu as well.
Panchito's offers a fully stocked bar with an excellent selection of tequilas. Non-alcoholic beverages are available for a family friendly evening when Baja Takeria is serving dinner.
Panchito's and Baja Takeria offer a very wallet-friendly night out under the breezy palapa and away from the heat of your kitchen.
Panchito's Bar is located on Av. Tercer Mundo across from entreAmigos Community Center. Hours are Tuesday - Saturday beginning at 7pm; Baja Takeria will be at Panchito's on Friday and Saturday evenings for the summer. Any changes in hours will be posted on the San Pancho Forum and Panchito's Facebook page.

Notes from the Ranch
| Notes to an early twenties adult:
- Kisses are not promises. They feel good but have no lasting commitment.
- The first one you kiss will not be the last one you kiss.
- Put yourself first then you can think of others.
- It is not your job to make anyone else happy. Start with yourself.
- If you don't like sex with them now chances are you will not like sex with them in 5 years.
- Listen to your gut, it has a lot to say when your mind is busy dreaming.
- Would you introduce them to your family?
- Do you make excuses for their behavior? Want to continue doing that?
- What does your big head tell you?
- Go away for the weekend with your sweetie. Deduct points for every piece of luggage over one.
- Can you laugh with them? Can you laugh at yourself with them?
- Can they laugh at themselves with you?
- Once a liar, always a liar.
- Ask friends what they think. Ask their friends what they think then make up your own mind.
- Don't be a fool, wrap that tool. Or, no glove, no love. Nobody likes condoms but they work.
- Do you want to look at that face every morning for the rest of your life?
- What is the cringe factor?
And the list goes on. I'm sure you all have your make it or break it rules. Let's share them with our kids. Oops, young adults. They may roll their eyes but a good eye roll is better than an unplanned pregnancy. We've all had those disaster dates and relationships. When did it stop being okay to share that experience with our kids? Ask questions, expect answers. Don't back down, be the parent.
Okay, over my moment.
I'm mixing new wife, business owner with a new business opening this month, farmer, mom and super woman. Sometimes it is beyond perfection, the rhythm, the cadence of my days, the peace, the trust that all is right. And sometimes I feel like I am in a Fellini movie. You know that character that sits quietly in the midst of the craziness and movement? The one scratching their head in confusion? That's me some days. But I know if I am honest with myself, keep my integrity intact and take no shit, it all works out.
Be YOU, be the BIG YOU. No excuses, no nada. Show me what you have!
Things I am thankful for: short business trips and long kisses, being a mom to the nth degree, and you.
Blessings, Tamara
