ART WALK BUSINESS OWNERS
THANK YOU TO THE LOCAL RESTAURANTS!
|
Article by Susana Sanborn
The business owners participating in the Friday night A rt Walks would like to thank the restaurant Wahoo's at Costa Azul who for two previous Fridays have delivered trays of complimentary canapes and a bottle of wine to the stores participating in the Art Walk. Costa Azul informed me that they will be delivering canapes to the participating stores again.

We would also like to thank Cafe Del Mar who two weeks also delivered complimentary canapes to the boutique Marmota.
The last Art Walk of the season will be on Friday the 15th of April and they will resume again next season. |
San Pancho Community Garden at entreAmigos
| There's been quite a flurry of activities behind entreAmigos since Feb 27. And we are not just talking about the bees relishing the pollen of the mango and lychee trees... A daily flow of volunteers has been preparing the ground and planting seeds for the creation of a large community garden. Under the expert guidance of Juaquin Lawrence Hershman, a French-intensive biodynamic master horticulturist, Alan Heinze (Indira's partner), a biologist working with the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Garden, and Hugo Piottin, a community activist and social entrepreneur, a busy nursery and garden operation is being created behind the bodega. Over 200 varieties of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruit trees have already been planted, and 80% of them will find their way to other gardens in the area.
The intention behind the project is to inspire and support the creation of efficient and beautiful organic food gardens in San Pancho and its surrounding communities. The project is beginning to offer on-site educational activities for local schools, such as the Escuela del Mundo and the Bucerias High School. Visitors of all ages learn remarkably efficient methods of making soil, creating raised beds, transplanting seedlings and making compost. Garden activities are taking place daily, including weekends, from 11-2. Please visit the San Pancho Community Garden blog for more information (you can subscribe to the blog on the top right-hand side of the page to follow the activities of the project) |

Three nearly impossible Birds in San Pancho!
|
Hola amigos! Ok so we went through the 5 most wanted birds, which are species that with some luck even the casual birder can find; we learned on 5 of the most common species that even non-birders can find. Today, I will share with you some of the beauties that even the avid birders have some trouble finding, absolutely rare.... and beautiful finds.
Orange-breasted Bunting (Passerina leclancherii): this is one of the rarest and colorful finds in this area. This colorful bunting is endemic (only found) in Western Mexico and once you find tiny this sky-blue with orange jewel-bird you will know what is, unmistakable! Although Orange Breasted Buntings have a limited distribution their conservation status is of Least Concern since they populations are considered stable.
Thicket Tinamou Crypturellus cinnamomeus: this is probably the rarest find, very few people (mostly farmors) have seen this birds deep in the capomo forest. They are heard sometimes, they call is a whimsical sounds that once you hear it while in the wild you know that somewhere around there is a "choncho", as Thicket Tinamous are locally calle.
Thicket Tinamout Voice
Blue-Hooded (Elegant) Euphonia (Euphonia elegantissima): unmistakable, this bird species is an absolute treat and delight to the observer`s eyes. Due to its wide distribution (from NW Mexico to Central America) this species is not considered as endangered; it is rarely found around the Nayarit State.

Notes from the Ranch
| Spring is in the air at Rancho Milagro! The heritage tomatoes are hanging off of the vine and the basil is making a come back after the chickens decided to eat most of the plants. Now they are busy on the sunflower heads. We have 6 new baby chicks! They are staying pretty close to Mama right now but I managed to get close enough for a picture. They are funny little things. So far the cat has not decided that they look tasty. The girls are producing about 15 eggs a week so I am in egg heaven. There is nothing like a fresh organic egg.
Here is the most decadent dessert recipe I've seen in a while. I'm not a big microwave fan but having my son living at home, it is his kitchen gadget of choice. Enjoy in moderation:
Nutella Mug Cake: 4 tablespoons self rising flour 4 tablespoons sugar 1 egg 3 tablespoons cocoa powder 3 tablespoons Nutella 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons butter or oil Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug. Mix until smooth. Microwave for 1 to 3 minutes depending in the strength of your microwave. Top with whipped cream.
Uff, I am gaining weight just writing down the recipe.
I am so excited about the new garden, El Jardin de Guadelupe, at entreAmigos! Hopefully we'll have some yummy veggies to eat soon. Stop by and volunteer for an hour.
I am off to Tepic again today. The last stamp and staple of my car papers and I'm good to go with Nayarit plates! Having a FM2, I need a nationalized car. This has been an easy and painless process with the government. Thank goodness for my Spanish! I'm looking forward to having lunch at Real de Don Juan on the plaza again.
Have a super week. Remember to set your clocks forward this Sunday. (In Mexico only.)
Semana Santa and Semana Pascua are right around the corner and I'm looking forward to seeing all of the families enjoying their vacation on the beach here in San Pancho.
Things I am thankful for: dark chocolate, a healthy body and a morning beach walk with the mutts.
Blessings, Tamara
