A note from Nicole about why this is so very special.
Many of you are here in town now and have heard the buzz. The simple fact that an organization like Cirque du Soleil would collaborate with entreAmigos to create a children's production is an amazing opportunity, a spectacular moment and has a "pinch me" sort of quality.
Beginning February 28th and continuing for two weeks, 8 people including set and production designers, costume designers, art directors and circus trainers from Cirque du Soleil, Circo del Mundo and Cirrus Smirkus as well as 100 San Pancho parents, 25 local artists, 35 organizing volunteers, the Deparments of Culture and Economy for the state of Nayarit and many others will focus their attention on the children of this community. There will be 40 children performing in the show but 40 more helping to create every detail of the artwork, the costumes, the scenery and the ambience.
The truth is that this collaboration is significant much beyond the buzz. The focus on the children and their own experience, not only by Gilles Ste-Croix but by our own staff, the members of this community and the larger community is what will make this the most spectacular moment in many lives.
As we move through the next few weeks I encourage you all to get excited about this opportunity for our children and to remember that the true gift of this moment is not the final show but the energy, love and attention that will embrace these children in the process.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Nicole

REMINDER: Next Spanish Class Session
starts February 28th!
| This summer, our very own Spanish teacher July Aquino, spent 4 weeks in intensive training offered by Cambridge University,
in Mexico City. This training formalized the many years of experience that July brought to her Spanish instruction and she has an entirely new and very impressive program and format for this years Spanish classes.
Classes are 1.5 hours a day (two days a week) and include 20 hours of instruction. Six levels from beginning, intermediate and advanced instruction will be offered.
The cost per six week block is $1500pesos plus $200 pesos for materials.
There is something for everyone if you want to learn Spanish; private classes, weekly Conversation Club and weekly
Spanish workshops are also available if you are unable to enroll in the full 6-week Spanish program.
Offering Spanish Classes is one of the ways that entreAmigos is working hard this year to generate the funds towards our financial sustainability. Taking Spanish is good for you and good for your community!! You must pre-register for the 6-week program. Please stop by entreAmigos and meet with July next week between 10 - 12 or send an email to [email protected]

Sueos Alegres Daycare Centre
FUNDRAISER Results!
|
By Laurie Jones
Last night we had our last of the Four Movie Nights.
We raised a total of $8,596 Pesos! Thank you for coming out and supporting this great cause!
This money will help Claudia do the things necessary to meet government requirements plus simply make the daycare a better place for the children. Claudia is a great person who loves the kids!
Sueos Alegres Daycare Centre presently takes care of 20 children and has a capacity of 39. The centre is financially supported and accredited by the Mexican government to assist working parents in San Pancho. The reason for the fundraiser is to supply things beyond the scope of the government funding. Things we take for granted in the United States and Canada to promote the development and growth of our young. This daycare must abide by the building and daycare codes set out by the Mexican authorities. For example, they need proper wooden half doors between each room and exterior exits. Financial support by our community would be wonderful, but the support can be as simple as giving them access to a photocopier. As in any operation, there has to be a paper trail of applications, copies of birth certificates etc. that need to be kept on file. Hopefully, our support will bring forth generous people who will donate in many ways. Donations can be in the form of something one doesn't use or need but would be beneficial to the daycare. There is a wall of shelves that sit with a handful of toys to stimulate these children. There are only a few plastic tables and chairs. We are talking simple things that would make a world of difference and make this a happier place for these children. Diane Nixon (258-4519) and Laurie O'Reilly (258-4228) |

Where are the Brown Pelicans? Part Two of Two
|
Continuing with the search for this question I want to express that I still have not found enough evidence to know what is going on with the pelicans but I have found someinteresting information regarding the possible disruption of the migration of this commonly and easy to identify bird species.
What does Google say about it?
Asking the Secretary of God (as I call Google) I have found that along the northern most area of the Brown Pelican`s distribution range which is the coast of Oregon and Southern Washington, wildlife biologists and reporters have noticed pelicans changing their distribution pattern every year. Since February 2010, several news reports acknowledge Brown Pelicans weren't going south as they were supposed and consequently they were being hit by storms and were starving and begging for food.
In November 2010, there is an interesting and complete report of large number of Brown Pelicans documenting major changes in the pelicans migration patter, which as the article states is always hard to predict.
Climate change, decrease in fish availability, ocean current variation... who know what the causes are, we will keep our eyes and hearts open to keep enjoying the migrating and resident Brown Pelicans of this areas and if necessary take actions to help preserve them and making sure the generations to come can enjoy of this magnificent wave surfers.
Luis was unable to translate his article this week due to his busy schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Luis Morales is a Marine Biologist, Director and Founder of the San Pancho Birding Club, and Owner of Birding San Pancho. Luis has vast experience on leading nature tours both in land and aquatic habitats. He has lived in San Pancho for 3 years and has become not only a frequent and avid observer of the local birds and nature but also an educational resource for our community and an environmental activist to help in preserving and restoring natural habitats.
