Art Festival Update: SinergiArte
|
By: Glades Huizar
The 5th annual San Pancho Art Festival "SinergiArte" was another success! Especially noteworthy was the energy and enthusiasm of festival volunteers who somehow (despite the 10 day stretch) never lost momentum.
Every night crowds gathered at each of the wonderful exh i bits (between the Bodega 3 to Galeria Azul, Café del Mar to Las Palma s and the Malecon) and culminating in a 2 day extravaganza of performance in the Plaza del Sol.
Attended by hundreds each night, the Plaza del Sol stage featured ethnic and contemporary dance, live music, the amazing Circo Dragon - which wowed many of the public with their fantastic perform

ances and costumes. There were shows for all - including children's theater group from Tepic,
teen hip hop rappers from vallarta and manual arts workshop with our neighbors, entreAmigos.
After this year's list of visiting artists, the organizers could have renamed the festival as the Sinergiarte "international" festival - a surprise to all was the performer/singer Malin Vulcan who came as a visiting artist all the way from Sweden! She mesmerized the public with her lyrical voice and techno music - definitely, it was the first time ever for the town to see a show of this kind in San Pancho's Plaza! But, the festival didn't forget its ro

ots - the festival "finale" featured our very own "Atrakadero", local "banda" ensemble featuring the town's youngest and most dynamic musicians. Soon, the plaza converted into a dance party while the public and festival volunteers celebrated another successful year!
While many of the artists have moved on and most of the exhibits are no longer up, the exposition of Ariel Sainz 'Rastros de una genesis" is extended through January 22nd. Inaugurating the festival on the 18th of December, the Bodega 3 opening was a definite kick off - creating an impressive opening for the rest of this year's calendar of events.
Attended by more than 150 people, the warehouse was transformed into something never seen before in the Bodegas - the sophisticated installation of Ariel Sainz's work, a beautiful candlelit appetizer banquet, eclectic ambience music by dj Sebastian and an enthusiastic crowd , which made for a very special night of art, culture and gastronomy. Once again, joining all the elements that make us proud to be part of San Pancho's thriving community! If you missed the opening (or if you want a chance to see the work more intimately), walk over

to Bodega 3 and meet the artist from Monday through Saturday, 5;00pm to 8:00pm or by appointment (322 120 2401).
Anyone interested in contacting the festival organizers or any of the individual artists featured in the festival, contact colectivosanpancho@gmail.com or visit Colectivo san pancho's facebook page.

Secret Spots & Not So Secret Birding Sites in San Pancho...
|
El Estero/The estuary: this is the number one birding place in San Pancho. At any time of the day it is possible to find great quality birding. Some of the common species are: Black-bellied Whistling Ducks, Yellow and Black-Crowned Night Herons, Northern Jacanas, White Ibises, Green Herons, Neotropic Cormorants and Green Kingfishers just to name a few...some of the special treats to look for are Purple Gallinules which are elusive and are rarely seen for long periods of time. This is a great place to start the day and for those who keep a checklist is possible to count up to 35-40 species during the first daylight hour.

San Pancho Golf-Course perimeter roads: either accessed by the road to Costa Azul hotel or by the road behind the hospital, this road with primary and secondary jungle vegetation offers great chances to find an amazing diversity of birds (and other fauna).Birds commonly seen here include: Elegant and Citroline Trogons, Mexican Parrotlets, Orange Fronted Parakeets, Black-throated Magpie Jays, West-Mexican Chachalacas, Golden-cheeked and Pale Billed Woodpeckers, Ivory-billed Wood creepers, Yellow-winged Caciques and Masked Tityras to name a few and with a little bit of luck and some skillfulness it is possible to find Russet-crowned Motmots and even Ferruginous Pigmy owls. This area is great area to birdwatch in the first morning hours or in the last 2-3 hours of daylight.
Of course there are more spots that I will be glad to show you and explain you in detail during one of www.birdingsanpancho.com tours!

Luis Morales is a Marine Biologist, Director and Founder of the San Pancho Birding Club, and Owner of Birding San Pancho. Luis has vast experience on leading nature tours both in land and aquatic habitats. Notes from the Ranch
| It's a great day to be alive! Rancho Milagro is filled with friends visiting. A great excuse to be in the kitchen for most of the afternoon! W e are whipping up some incredible dishes using the vegetables and herbs from the garden. And the hens are giving us the most amazing eggs, big yellow yolks. There is nothing, in my opinion, better than cooking out of my own garden.
Rancho del Rio comes right along. The cows are eating and getting fat. I see that at least 6 of the heifers are pregnant and I can't wait to see the babies in late spring. Sr Memo Flechas is growing up, he'll be 2 years old this spring and is gaining muscle. He's losing his baby looks and is a handsome guy. There will be 20 deer delivered this month for the higher more remote areas of the ranch. It is so much fun to ride around on the quad and see all of the changes.
What are my goals for this year? Personally, I will work on my discipline. More time at the gym and more time in prayer. And for the ranches, more of the same: hard work, growing fruits and vegetables and herbs. Rustling cows, taming mules, Vichente is such a hard head, riding horses. Maybe some cheese making. I'll expand my product lines and add more exotic spices.
The Farmers Market is growing slowly, the operative word here is slowly. I have faith that this year will see more vendors and more fun. Maybe some live music, too, hmmm. We need your help as customers to make this work. Please come to the plaza and see us on Saturday mornings. Nico has incredible Chai Coffee.
This is a strange season here in San Pancho for our guests, the tourists. Slower than last year. But I see new faces, young families. And more nationals traveling to vacation here. I love seeing the beach full of people! The glee of the little kids chasing the waves makes my heart warm. And makes me miss my son who is on his own adventure in California. Phone home, Kar.
If you want to see examples of old crafts, stop by Folklorico gift shop on Tercer Mundo in the afternoons. Maria Garcia is teaching the young girls embroidery, knitting and other lost arts.
So, be well, make goals. And stick to them. Give thanks. Hug your loved ones. Greet your neighbors. Share a smile. All is good. And we are right in the middle of it! Don't wait to share love!
Things I am thankful for: friends visiting and laughing til all hours, warm blankets, and sweet cowboy love.
Blessings, Tamara

FRIDAY ARTWALK UPDATE! | By: Glades Huizar
FRIDAY ART WALK - another example of our town's spirit and enthusiasm for the arts, culture and collaboration. Good news! Most of our shops and galleries are reporting that the season has actually picked up a bit -- kicking off the winter was the San Pancho Art Festival and the successful Friday Art Walk ! Thanks to the spirit of cooperation of many business owners, the Friday Art Walk is a wonderful weekly attraction for tourists, visitors from Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta and beyond. Originally conceived by Susana Sanborn of Tatehuari Jewelry and Ramon Garcia of Huapango Gallery, the Friday Art Walk has grown to include most of the stores, galleries and restaurants. Each Friday night, between 6 to 8pm, participating stores, galleries and restaurants light up their entrances with candles, some even feature live music in front of their businesses and most offer wine, cocktails, or teas to their guests. It is a chance to chat with local business owners, meet the artists and support our community - you will always find that something special as you peruse the diverse boutiques and galleries, or enjoy traditional and contemporary cuisine, even try organic tequila or take that 2X1 margarita offer! The Art Walk gives us many reasons to celebrate the end of the week in San Pancho - and if you're just visiting, the Friday Art Walk is the best option for touring the town in the evening. Some ask, how does one "do the art walk?". Start wherever you are, listen for live music on the streets, or follow the light of candles on the sidewalks or the aroma of delicious food being concocted by local chefs - no worries, each Friday is a chance to try something new, different and local! But, organizers of the art walk, want to extend the invitation for more businesses to participate - especially those who are not located on the main road. Hotel Cielo Rojo's & Bistro Organico has recently joined!. Visit the hotel's patio restaurant (check out the unique art and antique décor) and receive a complimentary glass of wine or tequila, Fridays from 6pm to 9pm.
Interested in participating? contact Susana at Tatehuari Jewelry. So, remember on Friday, take a walk!.....and enjoy San Pancho.
