very developed intelligence and the ability to associate words in the right context. I recently read an article from The Gabriel`s Foundation that mentioned that parrot`s ability to dance was somehow related to their ability in language and the reason is because both activities involve and at the same time promote a connection between the right and left sides of the brain. Well, the fact that I want to emphasize here is how intelligent and interesting these animals (Parrots and similar) are.

In the jungle areas around of San Pancho we have a very precious resource that is the Lilac-Crowned Amazon Parrots. Today, I want to share my passion and love for these members of the Psitacid family (Macaws, Parrot, Parakeets and Parrotlets).  Amazona finschi how these parrots are called scientifically, are an

endemic(only found) species to the Pacific Coast of Mexico AND they are protected by the Mexican Norm for Endangered Species (NOM-059).

Lilac-crowned Parrots are normally seen flying in pairs and sometimes in family or community groups. They have a deep and articulated voice sounding almost like a raven kryaahh kryaahh. The colony we have here feeds on the native oil-coconuts as well as capomo fruits. They normally have a social behavior but are afraid of humans since they are often captured to be sold as pets.

If you see them in the jungle take the chance to try approaching them carefully and respectfully, enjoy them!

If you see these parrots in cages along the highway being sold as pets: DO NOT buy them even if it is only to release them back into nature (by doing this you would be part of the poaching economy), it the situation bothers you enough denounce the sellers to PROFEPA. Sometimes these parrots are seen in cages in town as domestic pets. I totally respect this as a cultural trait in the cases the parrots were rescued or brought into captivity long ago before they were considered an endangered species. In this case, I believe is an opportunity to see how pretty these animals can be even in captivity.

Anyway, I always prefer to hear Lilac-Crowned Parrots flying wild and happy!

Los Loros Corona Lila de San Pancho

En San Pancho tenemos la suerte de tener todavía en estado salvaje algunas de las criaturas más interesantes e inteligentes de la naturaleza: los loros! A menudo vemos a los loros como parte de la cultura de piratas y se refiere a menudo a estos animales coloridos como muy habladores e inteligentes. De hecho, tienen una inteligencia muy desarrollada y la capacidad de asociar las palabras en el contexto adecuado. Hace poco leí un artículo de la Fundación Gabriel  que menciona que la capacidad de los loros de bailar con ritmo lo cual se relaciona de alguna manera con su capacidad en el lenguaje y la razón se debe a que en ambas actividades se promueve una conexión entre los lados derecho e izquierdo del cerebro. Bueno, el hecho de que quiero destacar aquí es lo inteligentes e interesantes de estos animales (loros y similares).

En las zonas de selva alrededor de San Pancho tenemos un recurso muy valioso que son los Loros Corona Lila. Hoy, quiero compartir mi pasión y amor por estos miembros de la familiaPsitacidae (guacamayos, loros y periquitos). Amazona finschi cómo se llaman científicamente a estos loros, son endémicos (sólo se encuentran en) la costa del  Pacífico en México y están protegidos por la Norma Mexicana para Especies en Peligro (NOM-059).

Los loros corona lila normalmente se ven volando en parejas y, a veces en grupos familiares o comunidades enteras. Ellos tienen una voz profunda y articulada que suena casi como un kryaahh kryaahh de los cuervos. La colonia que tenemos aquí se alimenta de los cocos de aceite, así como de frutas del Capomo. Normalmente tienen un comportamiento social entre ellos, pero tienen miedo de los humanos, ya que a menudo son capturados para ser vendidos como mascotas. Si los ves en la selva aprovechar la oportunidad para tratar de acercarse a ellos con cuidado y respeto, a disfrútalos!

r esto serás parte de la economía de la caza furtiva); si la situación te molesta lo suficiente denuncia a los vendedores ante la PROFEPA.

A veces, estos loros son vistos en jaulas en el pueblo como animales domésticos. Estoy totalmente de respetar esto como un rasgo cultural en los casos de los loros fueron rescatados o que se encuentran en cautiverio desde hace mucho tiempo antes de que se considerara como una especie en peligro de extinción. En este caso, creo que es una oportunidad para ver lo bonito que estos animales pueden ser aún en cautiverio.

De todos modos, yo siempre prefiero escuchar LorosCorona Lila libres y felices!
