entreAmigos Scholarship Program
If YOUR CHILDREN came home and told you that they had the highest grades in school and they were IN THE HONOR GUARD,  you´d be EXCITED RIGHT?

Of course, but in México, you´d also immediately start thinking about how you'd have to afford the expensive special uniforms that are required as part of this honor.  MANY TIMES, THEIR FAMILIES DECIDE NOT TO PARTICIPATE!!!

This year Not just one but TWO children in the same Family have been selected to join the Escolta and be part of one of the greatest honors in public schools.  This honor requires the purchase of a special uniform and shoes that will cost $3000pesos for both kids.  That is equivalent to a month of salary for many families.

honor guard

Luckily, both these students are part of the entreamigos scholarship program and much of the cost of their new uniforms will be paid for, leaving their Mom free to celebrate her children's success and encourage them to continue. We thank Carol and Bruce MacGregor & John and Michele Gillette who support them with their scholarships.

Notes from the Ranch

I have a new camera! Woohoo! Thank you to Chris Parsons for helping me find the perfect match for my basic camera skills. This camera, a Canon SX30is, takes photos and video! I think if I can figure out all of the features it may very well do the laundry, too. Hopefully you will enjoy more of my photos here.

The mule, "Chete", arrived and is settling right into life on a Mexican ranch. He came from Kentucky so had a long haul to get here. The first couple of days he was not happy to even look at a saddle and gave me quite a chase when I was in his paddock. But now he is saddled and being worked every day. Still has that "mule-atude" but they are stubborn hard headed creatures. My dad can attest to that! He vows never to have a female mule ever again.

The flower seeds I planted last week are already popping out of the ground. I am going to plant more. Seeds from the US arrive today! Heirloom tomatoes, herbs, purple basil and I can't remember what else. Maybe some more sunflowers and???  A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

Polo practice is every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00pm in La Patrona Polo Club and the restaurant is open at 5:00pm if you'd like to come and watch practice. Matches are Saturdays at 6:00pm. Last Saturdays poloplayer1match was fun to watch. The horses and riders are getting used to each other again. It is always a relearning curve after summer months of eating grass and being lazy. The horses, I mean. The players must keep in shape of suffer the consequences for the first few weeks of practices and matches. There is something about rock hard thighs, but I digress.

Last weeks Farmers Market was wonderful with the Revolution Day parade and performances in the plaza. We have so many talented people of all ages in San Pancho! The charros from Sayulitas Mi Ranchito danced for the crowd, too. Although I do have to say that there is nothing attractive to me about beer at 10:00am. But what the heck.
This weeks market promises more venders so come down and look around.

Someone helped themselves to my purse I left on the kitchen table last night. I woke up when the dogs barked but by that time the person was gone with my money. I just keep telling myself what my Grammy used to say, "Time wounds all heels." I will be changing the locks on the doors and be much more viligant about leaving valuables in plain sight. Take care, friends.

Things I am thankful for: Ejido fiestas, honest, hard, dirty work, my son spreading his wings, my Señor and our community.

                                     Notas del Rancho

Tengo una nueva cámara! Woohoo!

Bendiciones, Tamara

Birding in the San Blas Area

Birdwatching in the San Blas area is a must for those of us with interest and curiosity in tropical and migratory birds; but also for people with interest in general culture and history and for those willing to discover this unique historical village surrounded by a rich environment.

San Blas well deserves to be one of the world`s birding Meccas and home of the yearly International Migratory Birds Festival. The large fame as a world-class birding destination is due to the large diversity of birds (in average 300 species during every

Currently there are several tour guides and hotels that cater birdwatchers. If you are interested in making a tour to this area roomisreadycontact birdingsanpancho@gmail.com, I will be glad to give you more information on the tours to this area and hopefully take you to discover this famous birding destination.
