Greetings 545 San Pancho Newsletter Readers,
The sun is shining and things are getting busy in San Pancho. The streets are being cleaned and everyone is looking forward to the many visitors who will start arriving soon. Thank you to the Yogi's for cleaning our streets - more details and pictures on this to come.
The event at La Ola Rica last night was attended by about 35 homeowners and business owners. The food was excellent and I met a lot of great people. Thanks for coming, please continue to send me your ideas for improvements to the site and the newsletter. I will post some pictures from the event next week. I have not set a date for my next event yet, but it will be at Mar Plata in early December.
It is the Centennial Anniversay of the Revolution tomorrow November 20th - come out to all of the events beginning at 9 am. See the calendar for more details.

Tatehuari Jewelers Presents - Gyotaku exposition

Tatehuari Jewelers y Galeria presents the inauguration of the Gyotaku exposition "Catch of the Day" Friday November 19th from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm at TATEHAURI , 90-A Av. Tercer Mundo, San Pancho, Nayarit. The exposition will be on display until December 23rd.
Gyotaku ( gyo=fish; taku=impression) began in Japan in the early 1800's as a means to measure and record a commercial fisherman's catch.
There are two methods of printing- the direct and the indirect. The direct method is more common and is what you will see exhibited in the exposition. As the name suggests, inks or paints are applied directly to the surface of the fresh caught prepared fish. When the paper or fabric is impressed upon the fish and lifted, a detailed image is produced. The indirect method is more along the lines of a gravestone rubbing where the paper is molded atop the inkless fish and then inks or paints are applied with delicate and precise detail.
The Gyotaku on exhibit at Tatehuari was done with hand ground sumi ink on rice paper and is framed and matted.

| Notes From the Ranch,
The weather is cooling off and it is time to put blankets and quilts on the beds. Heavier curtains, colored rugs and pillows warm and brighten things up inside the house. I am always thankful for my collection of rebozos, or shoulder wraps, that I have from all over the world. Socks and a wrap in the morning with my first cup of coffee then off to the beach for a walk. I live in the best world!
I like the "Christmas" scented candles. I burn them this time of year and think about snow. Only think. This is about as cold as I like it! I would have made a terrible pioneer woman. All of those wind swept plains, snow storms, breaking the ice in the pond for water to boil for an espresso, oh I mean a bath, sod houses...ugh, count me out! I prefer the boots and bikini look where I can walk to the beach in 5 minutes.
The baby cows are growing and getting furrier for the winter. The little female that was born a couple of weeks ago has 2 star shaped swirls;  one on her forehead and the other in the middle of her back. I'm going to call her Star Jones. The 3 ruffian new males are always ready to rough house! They are going to be a handful. We vaccinated all of the cows and calves yesterday and it was work! Two cowboys on mules, lassos, vet and his helpers and in the end we all were the worse for the wear. I have NO idea how I received this huge black bruse on my left bicep. And I was only recording their registration numbers from their left ear tags! Lasso the cow, let her throw a fit and get tangled up around a post or tree, grab her tail and inject her in the flanks, avoid the cowpie, untangle her and let her go! Who needs a gym after that?
The San Pancho Farmers Market is in full swing every Saturday morning from 10:00am til 1:00pm in the plaza. Lots of goodies are showing up: bread, breakfast goodies, coffee, chocolate cake, herbs and more. Come and have a coffee and meet your neighbors.
The first polo match is this Saturday at 5:00pm. This is going to be an excitng season with new talent in the saddles and more horses. The restaurant has a new menu and it is so tasty. See you Saturday!
Things I am thankful for: Jason here for a visit, meetings, baby cow breath and the Spanish language with so many beautiful words for love.

Notas del Rancho El clima se está enfriando y ya es hora de poner mantas y edredones en las camas. más pesadas cortinas, alfombras y cojines de colores cálidos y aclarar las cosas dentro de la casa. Siempre estoy agradecido por mi colección de rebozos, o en el hombro envuelve, que tengo de todo el mundo. Calcetines y un abrigo en la mañana con mi primera taza de café y luego fuera a la playa a dar un paseo. Yo vivo en el mejor de los mundos!
Me gusta la "Navidad" velas perfumadas. Yo les quema en esta época del año y pensar en la nieve. Sólo pensar. Esta es tan frío como me gusta! Yo habría hecho una mujer pionera terrible. Todas esas viento barrió las llanuras, las tormentas de nieve, romper el hielo en el estanque de agua a hervir para un espresso, oh, me refiero a un baño, casas de césped ... ugh, no cuenten conmigo! Yo prefiero las botas y buscar bikini donde puede caminar a la playa en 5 minutos.
Las vacas bebé está creciendo y consiguiendo peletero para el invierno. La hembra pequeña que nació un par de semanas tiene 2 remolinos en forma de estrella, uno en la frente y el otro en el centro de la espalda. Voy a llamarla Star Jones. Los 3 nuevos machos rufián siempre están dispuestos a casa en bruto! Van a ser un puñado. Estamos vacunados todos los de las vacas y terneros y ayer era un trabajo! Dos vaqueros en mulas, lazos, veterinario y sus ayudantes y en el que poner fin a todas fueron los peor para el desgaste. Tengo ni idea de cómo he recibido esta brusie negro enorme en mi bíceps izquierdo. Y yo sólo era la grabación de su número de matrícula de sus etiquetas de oreja izquierda! Lasso de la vaca, la dejó un berrinche y se enredan alrededor de un poste o un árbol, agarra la cola y se inyecta en ella los flancos, evitar la Cowpie, desenredar ella y la dejó ir! ¿Quién necesita un gimnasio después de eso?
El San Pancho Farmers Market está en plena marcha cada sábado de 10:00 am hasta 1:00 pm en la plaza. Lotes de regalos están apareciendo: pan, golosinas desayuno, café, pastel de chocolate, hierbas y mucho más. Ven a tomar un café y conocer a sus vecinos.
El partido de polo primero es este sábado a las 5:00 pm. Esto va a ser una temporada excitng con nuevos talentos en las sillas de montar y más caballos. El restaurante tiene un menú nuevo, y es muy sabrosa. Nos vemos el sábado!
Cosas que me siento agradecido por: Jason aquí para una visita, las reuniones, el aliento de la vaca para bebés y el idioma español con palabras tan hermosas para el amor. The Elegant Trogon: One of my favorite birds!

Friends in town and people I take on tours often ask me: What`s your Favorite Bird?
It is a tough question, in a sense I feel like moms and dads when they are asked if they have a favorite son or daughted and the most common answer is: I love them all the same.... that´s exactly how I feel with birds, however - just like it happens sometimes to moms and dads- there is always a favorite.
Trogon elegans as it is called in latin, is a member of the Trogonidae family which includes trogons and quetzals. The Greek word "trogon" means gnawer which describes the Elegant Trogon's hefty, serrated bill.

green upperparts and breast. Bright red undertail and belly, separated from green breast by a white band; long iridescent copper green, square tail tipped in black. They have white undertail with black streaks. Elegant trogon are increadibly adaptable, living in a wide variety of habitats ranging from tropical lowland forested floodplains to temperate upland coniferous forests. Their distribution goes from Costa Rica all the way north to the southern US (Arizona, southwestern New Mexico and the lower Rio Grande of south Texas).

different common names throughout their distribution ra nge. For instance, just in the San Pancho area theyare called "Pájaros Bandera" (which means flag bird) and "cuas"; respectively due to their similarity with the Mexican flag colors and their deep nasal call. To me, Elegant Trogons are very special because they remind me of their relatives the "Resplandent Quetzals" which are the mythical birds (still existent in southern Mexico and Centra America areas) the mayan god Quetzalcoatl was named after. Quetzals are still considered sacred birds in some cultures and are sacred to me for sure since I named my first son Quetzal after the Resplandent birds. I`m not saying that Quetzal is my favorite son but... you know! El Trogon Elegante: Una de mis Aves Favoritas! Amigos del pueblo y las personas que llevo a recorridos a menudo me preguntan: ¿Cuál es tu ave favorita?
Es una pregunta difícil, en cierto sentido me siento como las mamás y los papás cuando se les pregunta si tienen un hijo favorito y la respuesta más común es: los amo a todos por igual .... Así es exactamente cómo me siento con las aves, sin embargo - al igual que sucede a veces a las mamás y los papás- siempre hay un favorito.
Trogon elegans como se le llama en latín, es miembro de la familia Trogonidae que incluye a los trogones y quetzales. La palabra griega "Trogon" significa "roedor" que describe al pico fuerte y asierrado de los trogones. Se puede reconocer a un Trogon Elegante por su dorso verde iridiscentey un color rojo brillante en el vientre, separado del pecho por una banda blanca y verde cobre iridiscente a largo de la cola cuadrada con borde en negro. El área subcaudal es de color blanco con rayas negro.

El Trogon elegante es una especie increíblemente adaptable, viven en una gran variedad de hábitats, desde bosques de tierras bajas tropicales, llanuras templadas de inundación has tierras altas en los bosques de coníferas. Su distribución va desde Costa Rica hasta el sur de EE.UU. (Arizona, suroeste de Nuevo México y la parte baja del Río Grande del sur de Texas).
Los trogones tienen diferentes nombres comunes en toda su área de distribución. Por ejemplo, sólo en el área de San Pancho se les llama "Pájaros Bandera" y "cuas", debido a su similitud con los colores de la bandera mexicana y su llamado nasal profundo, respectivamente.  | Photo by Valledelgeneral.com

Para mí,los Trogones elegantes son muy especiales porque me recuerdan de sus parientes los "Quetzales Resplandecientes", que son las aves míticas (todavía existentes en el sur de México y áreas de Centra América), de la cual obtuvo su nombre el dios maya Quetzalcóatl. Los Quetzales siguen considerando aves sagradas por algunas culturas indígenas y son sagrados para mí que desde que el nombre a mi primer hijo después de las resplandecientes aves. Y no quiero decir que Quetzal es mi hijo favorito, pero ...ustedes saben!
