Greetings 531 San Pancho Newsletter Readers,
It has been a while since you have received an newsletter, the good news is that starting this week we will begin publishing our weekly newsletters
I spent a few days in San Pancho last week and met many business owners both new and established. Thank you for the warm welcome to the village.
There are a lot of exciting events planned as the season begins, to name a few: the San Pancho Friday Night Art Walks begin on November 19th from 6-8 pm. The La Patrona Polo Matches begin on Saturday November 13th. Please check out the calendar for details.

Notes from the Ranch

The pasture behind Rancho del Rio headquarters is full of cows! Thirty beauties were delivered this week! And in the time we waited for delivery because of the bridge wash out, two of the girls gave birth; two of the cutest baby cows ever! But I'm partial. I tried to get a good photo of the babies but the moms were having no part of me being anywhere near their little ones. Every day I spend time in the pasture with them so that they will feel comfortable with my presence. What is the point of having cows if I can't pet them?!?!
They are Brown Swiss cows, a breed known for their docility and milk production. Hey, maybe I'll make cheese! We had delivery of our b ull, too. His name is Memo Flechas and he is 20 months old. What a handsome boy! As you can tell, my days are filled with bovine dreams. That is until my mule arrives and then I'll be busy saddle breaking him. He is coming from Kentucky and should be here in two more weeks. My dad always has had mules so I am following in the mule packer footsteps. He'll be so proud.
As for my garden at Rancho Milagro, Don Miguel and I are planting seeds and building more raised beds. I'll have even more varieties of heirloom tomatoes and basil this season. Look for my goodies at the San Pancho Farmers Market on Saturdays in the plaza. I will continue to make my amazing salsa, to go gourmet and I'll have fresh herbs, too.
The first polo match at La Patrona Polo Club is the 20th of November. Come out and watch our teams! The match starts at 5:00pm. Arrive a little early and have a glass of wine or an appetizer in the restaurant. There are a lot of exciting new things happening at La Patrona. I'll keep you posted.
So life on the ranches continues and we are busy with the change in the weather. So many projects to prepare for. But it is all good and I'm ready for an amazing winter filled with cows, mules and love.
Things I am thankful for: animal vets, cool nights for sleeping under a blanket and sweet kisses.

Notas del Rancho¡Qué verano salvaje, extraño que ha sido! Tanto bien que ha sucedido, y algunos de crecimiento de las malas.
El mayor acontecimiento de interés periodístico fue la madre naturaleza en su máxima ella. Después de días de fuertes lluvias, el puente sobre el arroyo de San Pancho lava, dejando a todos nosotros en tierra durante unos días. Un par de fallos en el servicio de energía eléctrica se maneja con rapidez. Teníamos agua de la ci udad casi todos los días. Seguí las ollas y sartenes y cubos de plástico debajo de todos los picos hacia abajo y recogido suficiente agua de lluvia al servicio de mi casa. Me tomé mi ducha en el jardín bajo un pico hacia abajo, también. No hay nada como un enjuague de lluvia para el pelo! El techo de mi casa se filtró por una suma de 4 a 6 cubos de la fregona de agua por la lluvia. Durante un tiempo tuve una pequeña cascada en mi comedor! Ahora que se está secando me levanto en el techo y selle bien. Las paredes interiores todos será necesario raspar y repintar después de que estén completamente secos. Hmm, ¿de qué color?
Mi jardín en Rancho Milagro sufrido 18 "de agua estancada hasta que un agujero en la pared, cavó un canal y el agua corrió a la calle. Voy a tener que empezar de cero. Ya estoy mirando catálogos de semillas y la planificación de un jardín Imporved con más camas elevadas. La albahaca en las camas altas sobrevivieron a fin de que me muestra que es necesario el drenaje adicionales y la modificación del suelo de estiércol de caballo y compost. tengo una excelente cosecha de papaya, limones Colima y los pimientos diminuto que son imposibles de comer! Ah, y la pasión de la ...
Nuestra comunidad se reunieron con sólo unos pocos problemas menores, sobre todo personalidades, y proporcionó alimentos y suministros para nuestros vecinos en necesidad. Gracias a todos los que me ayudaron a organizar y distribuir los suministros. Yo no podría haberlo hecho sin ti. Y una nota especial a Juan Jaime, Iván y Gabriel por su generosidad. Me conmueve.
Así que la vida se mueve en; volvemos a nuestra vida de haber sido humillado por la madre naturaleza. Estoy muy agradecido por las lecciones que me dieron. Yo soy más claro lo que quiero hacer con mi tiempo y recursos. Voy a tener más información que mi plan se desarrolla.

Fall 2010 is here: New Birding Season, All Winter Birds are Welcome!!!!

As the seasons change and the years go by, nature manifests a sense of cyclic renewal over and over again. Migratory (often called "winter") birds are just some of nature`s many messengers, which every year come and remind us that life on Earth is subject to a permanent state of somewhat-cyclic changes. This year`s fall season could not be the exception: as the very peculiar and intense summer rains are gone for good in the area, cooler temperatures and clear skies seem to have settled bringing not only an exquisite diversity (over 500 species of birds registered for the Nayarit state) of "winged" winter birds along their migration routes to southern latitudes but also thousands of frequent tourists also called winter birds due to the coincidence in their migration pattern: both winged and two-legged winter birds are very welcome!
What can we expect from this year`s birdwatching season? As every year in this area, the months from fall through spring are the best of the year to watch for birds:

- From October to December migratory birds start to arrive and some are randomly spotted during their migration to more southern latitudes whereas other migratory species settle in the area and remain here for several months coexisting most often peacefully with tropical species. During this time of the year most migratory species display what is called winter plumage, which is often not as colorful as their summer (breeding) plumage.
- Between January and March the largest diversity (number of species) and abundance (number of birds) are seen; by the last week of January 2011 from the 23rd to the 30th, the famous International Festival of Migratory  Birds will take place in San Blas Nayarit and just a few days after from February 6th to 12th the Tailwind Jungle Lodge Birdwatching Retreat will occur in San Pancho; by middle March some winter species start flying back north  and most tropical species start their mating season, which literally means "sex in the jungle": lot`s of mating calls and displays are seen and heard and the colorfulness of tropical birds is at its best.
From March thru June less migratory birds are expected; tropical species start making their nests and preparing for the rainy season: YES, again!

Conforme cambian las estaciones y los años pasan, la naturaleza manifiesta un sentido de renovación cíclica una y otra vez. Las aves migratorias (a menudo llamadas " de invierno") son sólo algunas de los muchos mensajeros de la naturaleza que cada año vienen y nos recuerdan que la vida en la Tierra está sujeto a a un permanente estado de cambio un tanto cuanto cíclico.
La temporada de otoño de este año no podía ser la excepción: ahora que las lluvias de verano tan peculiares e intensas se han ido para bien en la zona, temperaturas más frescas y cielos despejados parecen  haber resuelto traer consigo no sólo una exquisita diversidad (más de 500 especies de aves registradas para el estado de Nayarit) de aves de invierno "con alas" a lo largo de sus rutas de migración hacia latitudes sureñas, sino también a miles de turistas frecuentes también llamados pájaros de invierno debido a la coincidencia en su patrón migratorio
¿Qué podemos esperar de la temporada de observación de aves este año?
Como todos los años en esta área, los meses de otoño hasta la primavera son las mejores del año para observar las aves:
- De octubre a diciembre las aves migratorias comienzan a llegar y algunos son vistos al azar durante su migración hacia latitudes más al sur, mientras que otras especies migratorias se asientan en la zona para permanecer aquí durante varios meses mientras, bastante a menudo, coexisten pacíficamente con especies tropicales. Durante esta época del año la mayoría de las especies migratorias muestran lo que se llama plumaje de invierno, que a menudo no es tan colorido como el plumaje (reproductivo) de verano.

- De marzo a junio las aves migratorias comienzan a ser menos frecuentes, las especies tropicales empezar a hacer sus nidos y se comienzan a preparar para la temporada de lluvias: Así es, otra vez!

Halloween Parties & Parade
So, I ran downtown on Saturday night to see the parade!! What Parade? HA HA
No official parade -- unless you count all the adorable kids carrying tiny plastic pumpkins (not pillow cases) as they skipped and ran down main street. Just like up north, the trick or treating starts at dusk with the little kids (always accompanied by their parents or older siblings) shyly holding out their pumpkins as shop and restaurant owners admire their costumers and drop small candy pieces in their pumpkins. By the time it gets dark the little kids are off the bed and here come the teens and young adults to get a little candy in exchange for a look at their costumes. Unlike up north -- no one cares how old the trick or treaters are -- everyone gets a little candy.
The kids don't go door to door at private homes, by the way -- only to the businesses. As you're sitting at a taco stand all of a sudden a group of kids rush in shouting at the top of their lungs "YO QUIRO HALLOWEEN". Many of the adults stand in front of their homes or on the corners of main street just so they can offer candy to the children as they pass on their way to the next open restaurant or tienda.
Just 10 years ago Halloween passed without any fanfare or costumes in San Pancho. Then along came Walmart! The first couple of years you'd see mostly homemade costumes as the parents responded to Walmart's merchandising but didn't give in to actually buying their stuff. Now, as you can see by the pictures more and more people are going the traditional route.

Por lo tanto, me encontré con el centro de la noche del sábado para ver el desfile! ¿Qué desfile? JA JA
No hay desfile oficial - a menos que contar todos los adorables niños pequeños llevar calabazas de plástico (no fundas de almohada), ya que saltó y corrió por la calle principal. Al igual que en el norte, el truco o el tratamiento se inicia al atardecer con los niños pequeños (siempre acompañados por sus padres o hermanos mayores) con timidez la celebración de sus calabazas como dueños de la tienda y el restaurante admirar sus clientes y la caída de pequeños trozos de dulces en sus calabazas. Los niños no van de puerta en puerta en viviendas particulares, por cierto - sólo a los negocios. Como usted está sentado en un puesto de tacos, de repente, un grupo de niños en la punta gritando en la parte superior de sus pulmones "YO QUIRO HALLOWEEN". Muchos de los adultos de pie delante de sus casas o en las esquinas de la calle principal, justo para que puedan ofrecer dulces a los niños a medida que pasan en su camino hacia el restaurante de al lado abierto o tienda.
Hace apenas 10 años de Halloween pasó sin fanfarria ni trajes en San Pancho. Entonces llegó Wal-Mart! El primer par de años que usted vería en su mayoría trajes hechos en casa que los padres respondieron a la comercialización de Walmart, pero no ceder a la realidad la compra de su materia. Ahora, como se puede ver en las imágenes más y más gente se va por la ruta tradicional.
