Carpooling, Telework, and Gas Saving Tips
Help Combat Budget Busting Gas Prices gaspricewheel

Crude oil and wholesale gasoline prices continue to move higher; causing commuters to re-think their car usage.  AAA Mid-Atlantic reports that the average price of regular gasoline in New Jersey last Friday, 3/16/12, was $3.63. That's much higher than it was a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.39.

Analysts say the rising prices are mostly due to tensions in the Middle East, rising crude oil prices and market speculation, along with signs of an improving U.S. economy.

While commuters may not have much control over these outside factors, there are ways to control costs.

Pennsylvania Commuters!

New Distracted Driving Law

A new law, effective March 8, 2012, makes texting, emailing and browsing the Internet while driving all primary offenses in Pennsylvania, which means police can pull a driver over for doing so. It also carries a $50 fine.

The state law, signed by Gov. Corbett in December supersedes existing local ordinances, such as those in Philadelphia and two other Pennsylvania cities, which prohibit the use of any handheld device behind the wheel.

Nationally, nearly 6,000 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver and more than 500,000 were injured in 2008 (the latest data), according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

New Jersey is also one of nine states that ban the use of all handheld devices while driving.
