The program includes Ives Decoration Day, S.5 No. 2 and Beethoven's monumental Symphony No. 9 in D
minor, Op. 125 (Choral). Resident Conductor Francisco Noya presents an informal talk about
the program in the auditorium beginning one hour before the concert. Before the May 7th Concert, a Music School
Chamber Music Quartet featuring Allison Cote,
Lillian Hathaway, Johannah Macbeth and Natalie Martin will play in the mezzanine
lobby. Before the May 8th concert, Laura
Gulley's Suzuki violin students perform in the mezzanine lobby.

RI Philharmonic May 11 & 12 Education Concerts Sounds of Nature

Murmurs" from Siegfried Smetana - The
Moldau
Singer Allison Lonstein, the winner of the
2010 Philharmonic Concerto Competition will also perform on the
program. She is a senior at Westborough High School in Massachusetts, an AP and Honors student, Vice President of the
National Honor Society, Captain of the Girls Varsity Golf Team, a Varsity
Soccer player and an avid skier. Teacher's guides with interdisciplinary activities to
prepare your students for the performances can be found here.

Spring Concerts for Youth Ensembles

TUESDAY, MAY 18, 7pm PHILHARMONIC YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLES The Rhode
Island Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensembles (RIPYWE) will present their final
concert of the season on Tuesday May 18 at 7:00pm at Sapinsley Hall, Rhode
Island College. The concert will
feature a World Premiere of Maine;
Views from the Water, by student composer Jake Walsh,
played by the RIPYWE Senior Division under the direction of David
Martins. RIPYWE
Senior will also perform music
of Robert W. Smith, Elliot Del Borgo and Samuel Barber. The RIPYWE Junior Division under the direction of
Marc Blanchette will also perform.
SUNDAY, MAY 23, 3pm PHILHARMONIC YOUTH ORCHESTRAS The Rhode
Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (RIPYO) will present their final
concert of the season on Sunday May 23 at 3:00pm at Roberts Auditorium,
Rhode Island College. The concert will feature Lenny Donadio, winner
of the Music School Division of the 2010 Rhode Island Philharmonic Concerto
Competition. He will perform the first movement of the Prokofiev Piano Concerto
No. 2 with Music Director Alexey Shabalin and the RIPYO Symphony
Orchestra.The
concert will also feature the Repertory Orchestra, under the direction of Vincent Mattera, the
String Orchestra under the direction of Amy Rawstron and the Intermediate String Ensemble and
String Ensemble under the direction of Erin Quinton Erban.
Tickets for both
concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens and
will be
available in advance at the Philharmonic Box Office 401.248.7000 and at
the
door before the concert.

Save the Date: The Music School will host an Open House from 10am- 2pm on Saturday May, 22nd. Come visit our state-of-the-art facilities at the Carter Center for Music Performance and Education and enjoy student performances, tours, an instrument petting zoo, popcorn, games and more!
