Conductor Larry Rachleff leads the Orchestra through a rehearsal of Messiaen's Exotic Birds with Pian­ist JASON HARDINK. The Orchestra will also rehearse Night Ride and Sunrise by Sibelius, Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead and Strauss's Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks.

The rehearsals take place at VMA, Providence and begin at 5:30 with a pre-rehearsal welcome and in­troduction by Resident Conductor FRANCISCO NOYA. Once the rehearsals begin, the conductor will be miked so that the audience can hear his remarks to members of the orchestra and his discussion with the guest soloist. Patrons may sit wherever they choose on the main floor or the mezzanine and may change seats at the rehearsal break. Patrons can stay for the full rehearsals which end at 8:00 or leave at the break, at approximately 6:45.

Music Director Larry Rachleff leads the Orchestra on Saturday evening, February 27 at 8:00pm in a con­cert that includes Sibelius' Night Ride and Sunrise, op. 55, Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead and Strauss's Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, op. 28. Pianist Jason Hardink joins the Orchestra in a performance of Messiaen's Exotic Birds.

    A native of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Pianist Jason Hardink attended Oberlin Conser­vatory, studying piano with Sanford Margolis. He received his Master of Music in piano performance from Rice University, where he was awarded the Sallie Shepherd Perkins Prize for Best Achievement in Music. He has recently completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as a student of Brian Connelly, also at Rice. He specializes in performing the music of Olivier Messiaen. Last season he performed the complete Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus in cities throughout the United States, as well as Des Canyons aux Étoiles... with the Utah Sym­phony as a part of a festival which celebrated Messiaen's historic visit to Utah in 1972. He currently holds the position of Principal Symphony Keyboard/Opera Rehearsal Accom­panist at the Utah Symphony and Opera.

Performance Hour is a performance opportunity for students who are taking lessons or in small ensembles. There are two performances that will take place in Sage Hall at the Carter Center. They begin at 2pm & 3:30pm and the admission is free.

Orchestras Feeding America

The Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School is very excited to be one of over 200 orchestras across the country participating in the Orchestras Feeding America program. The Philharmonic will collect non-perishable food and personal items before each of our concerts on March 26 and March 27, in the lobby of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium. In addition, Music School faculty, staff members and volunteers will collect non-perishable food daily at the Carter Center, 667 Waterman Avenue, East Providence, from March 1 through March 31, 2010.
 
The Philharmonic will donate all the food and personal items we collect to Crossroads Rhode Island. Please bring a food or personal item donation the next time you join us for a concert or Carter Center activity. Thanks!
