5 Simple Ways to De-Stress This Summer by Mary Serphos
1. Express your feelings in a mindful and thoughtful way so as to cause no harm to yourself or others.
2. Never underestimate the power of hope and the gift of laughter...two true forms of medicine for the soul.
3. Cultivate a spiritual practice - one great way to start is to devote 15 minutes per day to yourself and find something to be devoted to whether it's peace and calm, your body, a deity or your garden - make this a nonnegotiable part of your day.
4. Take out 10 minutes to give yourself a massage at home, at work or while on the beach. Massage can enhance immunity and energize your physical and mental state while helping to increase productivity. Squeeze your neck, circle your fingertips on your temples gently, and rub those feet and ankles which work so hard to support us.
5. Exfoliate your skin - use the sand at the beach or a sea salt scrub in the shower and rub it all over your body for a fast and easy, super glowy, circulatory boost!

Devour This! Fabulous Food of the Moment
FLAX SEED
Add it to your summer smoothie, mix it into pancake or bread batter, sprinkle it generously on your morning cereal to add extra fiber and feel it boost your mood with brain fueling omega 3's. Studies have that flax seed lowers cholesterol - especially in men. Last summer, I advised my father to add this to his oatmeal in the morning and he is now eating some every day and feeling great!
Energizing Berry and Flax Smoothie with Ginger and Honey
The ginger in this smoothie offsets the sweetness of the honey and berries, adds a spicy kick and will help you digest this delicious summer treat.
Ingredients
1 cup of unsweetened plain yogurt or Kefir 1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries or a mix of two or three ¼ cup pomegranate juice 2 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed (I typically buy Bob's Red Mill Ground Flax Seed which is dark brown in color. More recently I have also bought whole golden flax seeds at Trader Joe's which I grind in a coffee grinder- these seem to be a bit more flavorful and add some variety) 1 teaspoon finely grated peeled ginger Add ice if preferred Combine in a blender and enjoy!
Get summer berries into your diet now while they are fresh and in season. The dark color of the berries contain a ton of powerful polyphenols which are cancer and disease fighting. Mixed in with probiotics of yogurt or kefir, this winning combination can help heal your gut. Studies have shown that this duo is great for the prevention and healing of inflammatory bowel disease. Use This Hint on a Hot Day: Get out of the soda, juice and vitamin water habit...for a refreshing twist try Hint Water Blackberry Essence. Drop in a few fresh blackberries and some mint leaves and maybe a few drops of maple syrup or honey and smile because this drink has no additives or chemicals or processed sugar.

Try this SUPER EASY PROTEIN PACKED LUNCH to feed the whole family when you want to take a break from cooking
I love natural smoked wild Salmon to eat when I need to grab and go or if it's just too hot to cook a protein packed meal. I wrap some of the salmon in either nori (a mild seaweed) or romaine leaves or sometimes both, but not before I add in some fresh avocado sprinkled with black and white sesame seeds and a few shiso leaves (found at farmer's markets, specialty food stores and Asian markets). Squeeze it with a bit of lemon and enjoy. The rolls are great with a side of some cucumber slices, drizzled with olive oil, lemon, a bit of sea salt and fresh dill.
