5 Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System Naturally
by Mary Serphos
Think it's inevitable to catch that cold or flu this winter?...think again. With these tips, you'll be feeling great and you may just go through this season without a sniffle.
-
The single most important thing you can do for your immune system is to get adequate sleep and rest. And don't underestimate the power of a nap. If you can squeeze one in; do so, especially if you haven't had adequate sleep the night before.
-
Garlic, garlic, garlic! Yes, this ancient remedy truly keeps the germs at bay. Dice up a fresh clove or part of fresh clove and add it to one savory dish once a day. It's best to not overcook it and add it at the end of the cooking process so it just gets gently heated and stays semi-raw. If you can tolerate it, put a few small diced pieces (about a quarter of a clove) on the back of your tongue and swallow at the end of a meal, when your stomach is full otherwise it may feel too acidic. After eating garlic daily for 3-4 weeks, take a break for a week.
-
Eat those greens. I can't say it enough- dark leafy greens are system detoxifiers and will help keep your lymph system and digestive system clean. Kale, broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard, collard greens, to name a few...lightly steam or sauté and add that garlic and some olive oil and possibly some squash or other root veggies you have yourself a perfect winter side dish.
-
At the very first sign of a sniffle or an ache, take a natural wellness formula with all the good stuff like Vitamin C, Echinacea, etc. If you are surrounded by family or co-workers with an infection or virus, try taking some oregano oil in a supplement form. Oregano oil is potent stuff so don't overdo it and make sure just to take it for a week or two and then stop since it acts like a natural antibiotic.
-
Ease off the dairy. Dairy is a congestant and will clog you up and cause your body to produce excess mucus. To get your fix, eat a little plain yogurt and add some honey for a sweetener.
