Tarrant Cares Launches

  Share the news

Bus adAfter months of hard work by providers from throughout the community, Tarrant Cares launched on March 30. Since then, groups have been receiving emails and in-person presentations in an effort to spread the word. The campaign also includes advertising on area buses and bus benches. Check out the site for yourself at www.tarrantcares.org.

Tarrant Cares is a comprehensive, interactive, web-based system that provides information about local services, along with a library of more than 30,000 articles on a variety of issues. The library also includes information on thousands of medications, including many photographs. Another section provides information about hundreds of medical tests. The Community Dashboard on the Public Health/Healthy Communities page offers demographic, health and other data about Tarrant County, including a comparison with state numbers.

We would appreciate your help in letting others know about this new resource. Here are some ways you might help:

  • Place the Tarrant Cares logo with a link to www.tarrantcares.org on your Web site
  • Send an e-mail flyer to your stakeholders
  • Include the information in your newsletter
  • Follow Tarrant Cares on Facebook and Twitter
  • Place rack cards explaining Tarrant Cares in key locations
  • Post the flyer in your public areas

Click here to find Tarrant Cares logos you can use, along with a flyer and other materials. If you would like rack cards, magnets or "business cards," please email kay.barkin@mhmrtc.org.

Hand in Hand Celebrates
Children's Mental Health Awareness Day
Series of performances recognize May 3 observanceVentriloquist
Hand in Hand is celebrating Children's Mental Health Awareness Day with a series of puppet shows in each of the counties it serves. Nationally known ventriloquist Nancy Burks Worcester will perform in Granbury on May 2, in the Atrium at Cook Children's Medical Center on May 3, in Mineral Wells on May 4, at Burleson's Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 6, and in Weatherford on May 11. The Granbury, Mineral Wells and Weatherford performances will be presented in conjunction with the Head Start Center in each of those communities.

Nancy's fun presentation will include messages about preschool emotions, friendships, bullying and other topics designed to nurture mental health and prepare children for Kindergarten. Parents will be invited to join their children so they can hear the messages as well. For the parents, there will also be an emphasis on the importance of playing with their young children. The Tarrant County Commissioners Court will present a proclamation recognizing Children's Mental Health Awareness Day on Tuesday, May 3, at 10 a.m., during its regular meeting. Chuck Hoffman, the new Hand in Hand Project Director, will accept the proclamation.

Hand in Hand, CPS Join Forces for National Study
Results to be compared with Dallas County
Hand in Hand has been selected as one of two communities across Thumbs Upthe country to participate in a study with Child Protective Services. Each community will be compared with a control site that does not have a system of care or offer wraparound. The research will determine the outcomes of wraparound for children and families who receive CPS in-home services or out-of-home placement. Results from the Hand in Hand study will be compared to a control group in Dallas County. Children in the study must be between 2 and 5 and reside in Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker or Tarrant County outside of Fort Worth.

Members of the Hand in Hand team have been making presentations to CPS supervisors and workers to urge them to refer children they think are appropriate. The study calls for at least 50 children to be enrolled by August 2012.
