Journal Clubs to Hold Orientation Meeting
March 23 session will kick off literature reviews

BTG LogoMental Health Connection will kick off its Journal Clubs on March 23 with an orientation session. The meeting will be held at The Women's Center, 1723 Hemphill, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Journal Clubs are being formed as part of Mental Health Connection's work following our last Bridging the Gap Symposium in November. Each group will meet monthly beginning March 23, with final reports presented at the Mental Health Connection membership meeting on September 13.

If you have not previously signed up for a Journal Club but would like to participate on one, just register for this event and we'll add your name to one of the club rosters. If you are interested but cannot attend the orientation, please let us know on the registration form as well.

We look forward to learning with you.

Hand in Hand Expands Wraparound Criteria
"Imminent risk" now accepted BTG Logo

Hand in Hand is now accepting children for Wraparound who are at imminent risk of a mental illness. Other Hand in Hand criteria continue to apply, including:
  • The family must live in Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker or Tarrant Counties outside the City of Fort Worth; and
  • The child must be between birth and age 6.
There are currently openings for families in Hood, Palo Pinto and Parker Counties.

Hand in Hand will be screening for Wraparound eligibility using the ASQ:SE. If you would like someone from Hand in Hand to conduct the screenings, please contact Stephanie Norton to work out a date.

Hand in Hand has also created a flyer designed to communicate with families who might benefit from Wraparound. Click on the links below to view a printable copy of the flyer. Brochures are also available for families. For copies in English and Spanish, contact Hand in Hand at 817-569-5720.

If you know a family who might be eligible for Hand in Hand Wraparound, would like someone to conduct screenings,
or have any questions, call Hand in Hand at 817-569-5720 or email Stephanie Norton

CCHAPS Reveals Medical Information
About Area Children
 Survey results posted online

Two girlsDid you know that more than 12% of children in Tarrant County received assistance for a mental illness or behavioral, emotional or developmental issue? Or that 9% of the children have been told at some point that they have a mental illness or disorder?

Perhaps you already knew that 6% of children in Tarrant County are reported to have experienced something traumatic in their lives. But were you aware that more than 7% of children have intentionally cut or hurt themselves.

All of this information and more is available from the Communitywide Health Assessment and Planning Survey (CCHAPS) conducted by Cook Children's Health Care System. Larry Tubb, the System's senior vice president of system planning, discussed the survey results at the February Mental Health Connection meeting.

Cultural Competence Team Plans Next Steps
 Local trainers named
Gloria MorrowDr. Gloria Morrow returned to Fort Worth in late February to facilitate a meeting with all executives and providers who participated in the cultural competence training in October and November.

During her visit, Dr. Morrow also trained the individuals who were selected to provide the cultural competence program to others in the community. Those who went through this intensive training were:
    • Sharron Herrera, Fort Worth ISD
    • Estrella Griggs, Santa Fe Youth Services
    • Jacinto Ramos, Jr., Tarrant County Juvenile Services
    • Sonya Mosley, Lena Pope Home, Inc.
    • Stacy Williamson, MHMR of Tarrant County
    • Walter Taylor, MHMR of Tarrant County

DataLink Pricing Drops
New subscribers lead to lower costs DataLink Logo
As promised, pricing for DataLink has gone down with the addition of numerous new subscribers in the past few months.

In other news, DataLink hosted a presentation by Pam Beach on the latest HIPAA regulations. Those who attended are still looking into their own privacy policies to ensure they are compliant. Visit www.mentalhealthconnection.org to access Pam's materials.

DataLink meetings with area Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT) providers have resulted in a new network of the providers going live in April. A promising meeting with 2-1-1 explored ways for DataLink to integrate some of the profile information about agencies in the community into the DataLink network.

For information about the new pricing or anything else on DataLink, contact Tamra Walker.
Stay on TRAC Scheduled to Start in August
BTG Logo Keller ISD sets date to begin pilot
Students in Keller ISD will be able to choose Mental Health Connection's Stay on TRAC instead of alternative school for alcohol infractions when the 2010-11 school year begins.

Students who participate in Stay on TRAC (Treatment, Responsibility and Accountability on Campus) will spend only five days in the district's alternative school. During that time, they will receive an assessment to determine the best services to help them avoid alcohol infractions in the future. During the initial pilot year of Stay on TRAC, the following Mental Health Connection members will be providing services at no charge:
  • All Church Home for Children
  • Lena Pope Home
  • Santa Fe Youth Services
  • MHMR of Tarrant County Youth Recovery Campus
Mental Health Connection is a collaboration of public and private agencies, as well as individuals who need mental health care services and their caregivers. The organization works to revolutionize the mental health delivery system, with a vision of creating No Wrong Door to the Right Mental Health Resources.
