Bridging the Gap Has a Few Spots Left
BTG Logo Ensure Your Seat
There are a few openings still available for the 2009 Bridging the Gap Symposium, but time is running short. Call Donna Davis today to make a reservation at 817-569-5326. You can also fill out the registration form and fax it to her at 817-569-5734. This is your final opportunity to hear experts from all parts of the country as they share their knowledge and expertise about early childhood issues, trauma and systems change. Each year, decisions are made as a result of Bridging the Gap that have a major impact on the mental health system of care. Take advantage of these last few seats to make sure your voice is heard.

DataLink to Conduct Trial of New Technology in November
Keyboard Building a Federation of Users
Mental Health Connection's DataLink is testing a new technology that will allow the database to exchange information with other data systems. This new way of exchanging information, called the Federated Model, will help to reduce the need for some agencies to enter client data in more than one system. Results of the test should be available before the end of the year.

In other news, first-time subscribers will be joining DataLink soon. The Arlington Police Department will go live on November 2, and Hand in Hand is coming on board this week. Additionally, all agencies have received training in new reporting features.

DataLink is also offering the best subscription rates since its inception, but prices will change after the first of the year. So now is the time to sign up. To add your agency to the system-wide databasecontact
Tamra Walker by e-mail or call her at 214-850-4473.
Hand in Hand Begins Wraparound
 Facilitators Ready for Clients
BTG LogoThe Hand in Hand initiative has opened up referrals for its new wraparound program. To refer someone to wraparound, use DataLink, call Stephanie Norton at 817-569-5729
or access the referral form online and fax it to 817-569-5734.

To meet the criteria for wraparound through Hand in Hand, children must:
  • Be between birth and age 6
  • Be living in Hood, Johnson, Palo Pinto, Parker or Tarrant County, although children in Fort Worth are not eligible since the previous grant covered that area
  • Have a mental health diagnosis (or be willing to get one)
The Hand in Hand office has received several calls from those interested in referring children with autism. Unfortunately, the grant does not provide for wraparound to children with autism or other developmental delays and disabilities unless they have a co-occurring mental health diagnosis.

BTG Logo November 19 Conference
The Texas Association for Infant Mental Health will hold its Annual Meeting and Conference in Fort Worth for the first time on November 19, 2009. The day-long program, which will start at 10 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., will focus on babies' wants and needs, as well as healing and hope for children whose early life experiences were not optimal.

Carrie Contey, Ph.D., a nationally recognized early parenting coach, consultant, speaker, educator and author who has appeared on the Today Show, will discuss "What Babies Want: Calming and Communicating with Babies." Karyn Purvis, Ph.D., director of the Texas Christian University Institute of Child Development, will highlight research on prenatal and postnatal development.
