FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
October 2010 Youth PictureLast month we introduced you to some exciting changes happening here at the Y. We told you about our three areas of focus: For Youth Development, For Healthy Living and For Social Responsibility. Because you are an important part of our organization, we want to share with you the meaning behind each of the focus areas.

Behind "For Youth Development" is our belief that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. The values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. At the Y, children and teens learn positive values and behaviors and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Next month: FOR HEALTHY LIVING

  A SUCCESSFUL DINNER AUCTION

2010 Dinner Auction: Cristian, Karen & DeniseThe 6th Annual Northumberland Family YMCA Dinner Auction was held on Saturday, September 18th.  The evening was a success in that we marched much closer to achieving our goal to complete the Capital Campaign Project for our new YMCA facility.  A final tally showed that we exceeded a net income of just over $37,000!  Now that is something to shout about!  Thank you to everyone who came out that evening to either work, volunteer or to donate to our exciting cause.  A grand evening was had by all!

PROGRESS UPDATE FOR YOUR NEW YMCA
Capital Thermometer Oct. 2010Have you noticed the changes on our Capital Project signs in Callao, Heathsville, Burgess and near Kilmarnock? We have updated to signs based on actual subcontractor bids for labor and materials after finalizing the architectural plans. The signs now indicate our total project cost is $3.2 million. Total pledges to date range from $10 to $1,000,000 (including the Earl Withers Trust). We only need $40,000 to meet our campaign goal.

Thank you to everyone who has given gifts or pledges to this exciting new facility!  With your continuing help, we are moving closer to achieving our goal every day and are looking forward to a June 2011 opening.
