EXCITING CHANGES - SAME MISSION 
| | | It is an exciting time in the YMCA movement! Recently, our national organization, the YMCA of the USA, launched a new branding strategy which includes a new logo and the introduction of three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This new spin on our old favorites allows the YMCA mission "to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all" to be clearer and louder than ever before.
Our YMCA plans to roll out the new brand over the course of the next sixteen months; we invite you to share in our excitement as we embrace and begin the changes! |
| DO YOU FEEL YOUNG AT HEART? | |
Join us for the sixth annual Northumberland Family YMCA Dinner Auction at Festival Halle in Reedville on September 18th. Committee Chair, Karen Curry, says "reservations are coming in like crazy, we only have room for 170 guests, so I hope everyone who wants to attend returns their RSVP quickly."
We have a quilt up for auction again this year. Children in our after school program created blocks for the quilt, and Paula Hudson (pictured with the quilt) along with Guild members assembled it. "We couldn't be more appreciative with the Guild for taking the time to help the YMCA, while they are preparing for their own upcoming quilt auction," is echoed from the entire dinner auction committee. All proceeds from the auction benefit building the new YMCA facility. For more information about attending the YMCA dinner auction, please call the Y office at (804)580-8901. But hurry, reservations are filling up quickly.

| NORTHUMBERLAND YMCA SPORTING EVENTS | |  Fall Soccer
Youth Super Sports Rookies Soccer (Ages 4-8)and Winners Soccer (Ages 9-14) uses the games to empower children to solve problems that arise in the game. Teaching of skills begins by playing the game for older children and a version of the game modified for younger children. Trained coaches help them learn "what to do," what we call tactical awareness. Youngsters practice using game-like drills, and receive individual instruction to help them develop within the sport. Fitness and Well-Being are incorporated into practices and our Character Values of Caring Honesty, Respect, and Reponsibility are always reinforced.
Registration for Fall Soccer Ends 9/9/2010, and the "Meet The Coach/Skills Assessment Day" will be on 9/11/2010. YMCA Football Night at NHS
Friday, September 17th is YMCA night at the Northumberland High School home football game. Come out at 7:00 pm to support the NHS Indians as they take on King & Queen. The YMCA football players will be recognized and the cheerleaders will cheer at half time.
