"I wanted to paint Georgia O'Keeffe as she looked when she began her career, rather than as the much older woman familiar to most people. I combined two photographs taken by Alfred Stieglitz to create the composition for this painting - "Reluctant Godmother" - my homage' to Georgia O'Keeffe. She is the most famous artist associated with Santa Fe today." David von Braun
