Referee Banner

Hi ,

Below is a note from a parent to a coach regarding an incident from this weekend on the fields. There are lessons to learn from this:

1) You, the referee, may think these are incidental issues or don't want to take the time or trouble to report them BUT it is critical that you do. This coach did get themselves under control and 'owned' what happened. Imagine though a person who does not.

Next week you have now set-up your fellow referees for the same kind of behavior and that is not the right thing to do. Incidents like this MUST be reported.

2) We have some really decent coaches here in Valley Center. Our league has worked very hard to put reasonable people on the field; we are proud of what we have accomplished. You are fortunate to be working here. Remember that as you grow in the profession and start to work elsewhere, you will notice the difference!

As always let me know if you have ANY questions!

Subject: Coach Outburst

------------ came to practice today and apologized to the members of our team regarding an outburst by her at last Saturday's game between the ------ and ------.  Some of the girls had been confused and had questions about the situation.  ---------- was patient and took the time to address each question.  She explained to them that she lost control and that she was wrong for that.  She also said that during the game it is always the referee's call and that under no circumstance are we as coaches to "yell" at a referee.  In addition, she explained to them that she went to the referee immediately after the game and apologized to him.

I wanted to pass this along to you.  Lots of us make mistakes and even lose control at times.  (For me, it's usually behind closed doors and not in front of an entire soccer field...thank Goodness!) None the less, it's our job as parents to guide our children through life's challenges and I felt that ----------- took this situation and turned it into a learning experience for our team.  She could easily have taken an indignant attitude and ignored the situation, as many people would have.  I admire her for humbling herself in front of the team as well as the parents looking on....

I am happy that my daughter is able to work with ----------.  She clearly loves her kids and teaching soccer to their friends.  I've only known ------------ since the All-stars last season and I would recommend her as a coach to anyone who might ask.

Sincerely,
------------
