In the upcoming weeks, the ACLU of Georgia in partnership with community groups and law schools will be coordinating three screenings of the film "Americans on Hold: Profiling, Prejudice, and National Security," produced by the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) at NYU School of Law. The film reveals the harmful effects of ineffective U.S. counter-terrorism and immigration policies targeting Muslim-American and Arab-American communities. Through the personal stories of Anila Ali and Zuhair Mahd and expert testimony, the film exposes discriminatory profiling at the heart of citizenship delays and border-crossing detentions and delays.
The 1st screening will be today (Tuesday), Sept 14th, 7:30 pm, at the PushPush Theater, 121 New St, Decatur 30030; the screening is co-sponsored by Georgia for Democracy Film Club. The 2nd screening will be at Emory Law School on Wednesday, September 29th; more details forthcoming regarding time and exact location of the screening.
The 3rd screening will be at the ACLU of Georgia annual membership conference on Saturday, Oct. 1st, as part of a workshop on racial profiling.
