The ACLU Foundation of Georgia is pleased to announce it is seeking its next Director of Development. This senior management position is responsible for creating, planning and executing the affiliate's major gifts program and for leading the progression and expansion of the ACLU of Georgia's fund development strategies. Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the successful candidate will have the deeply rewarding experience of taking the affiliate from a modest development program to one that fully sustains the organization. Job Responsibilities
Principal duties include:
Major Gifts Program: Identify, develop, and implement strategies for the cultivation of prospective donors for annual gifts of at least $10,000; identify donor prospects and maintain records on current donors; facilitate solicitations and stewardship strategies for the Executive Director and key board leaders, as well as build a personal portfolio; prepare materials for solicitors and donors; train board members and others for donor stewardship; develop and coordinate an annual comprehensive work plan that will include specific fund raising goals and targets for proposals, appeals and campaigns with the Executive Director; work with the national office in coordinating production of appeals; coordinate and implement cultivation and outreach strategies to prospective donors throughout the year. Planned Gifts: Work with the national ACLU office of Major and Planned Gifts to develop and implement strategies for marketing planned giving products to ACLU donors and members. Other Responsibilities: Gift Recording & Acknowledgement:Assure the proper recording, tracking and reporting of gifts from major donors. Maintain accurate and current data files, including giving histories, profiles, interactions. Materials: Maintain primary responsibility for developing the messages, materials, and explanations of our work used in all of the development campaigns. Contribute to the development of the Annual Report and other materials that advance the ACLU's development programs. General staff leadership responsibilities: Attend ACLU functions including occasional Board meetings. Assist the Executive Director in maintaining a strong team spirit within the office. Foundation Grants Program: Coordinate foundation grants program, including strategic prospect research, scheduling, writing, grant preparation and reporting.

Experience and Requirements:
This is a full-time, salaried position requiring occasional travel, nights and weekends. The position is based in Atlanta.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
Minimum two years of experience in the development and fundraising field, with experience in direct solicitation strategies strongly preferred.
Detail oriented with strong follow-thorough and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Computer proficiency, including list/database management required.
Creative, result-oriented, self-starting, willing to learn, and able to manage an aggressive schedule, working beyond 9-5 as needed.
Ability to work independently to develop long-term development strategies for the organization. Applicants must also possess strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable collaborating with donors, volunteers and other staff on shared projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience with successful written donor communications and marketing materials preferred
Experience in working with advocacy and/or community-based organizations. Deep personal commitment to the work of the ACLU strongly preferred. |
