Welcome to DSU for the 2012-2013 School Year!

We hope you are enjoying these last few days of summer vacation! DSU staff is busily preparing our after school programs for your Alden and DMS students. We've got a lot to cover here:
Walk Through DSU on Tuesday Night August 28th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
The 2012 - 2013 DSU class is comprised of many new after school families. This year we are opening the building for a walk through to coincide with Alden School's family walk through and the DMS new family reception. Please come to DSU during this time, take the opportunity to explore the building and to ask our staff any questions you or your child may have about what to expect this year.
DSU Opening Days
DSU opens to Alden Students on September 4th and to DMS students on Monday September 10th. The delay opening to DMS students allows our staff the opportunity to acclimate our younger Alden students, many of whom have recently transitioned from Chandler School, before our middle school program begins. If this poses a problem with any DMS families, please contact sbradford@duxburystudentunion.com .

Our adult youth counselors will meet Alden students in the main lobby (between Alden and the Performing Arts Center) at 2pm daily. DSU Counselors will be wearing the Summer Fest shirts seen in the picture to the right.
Please provide an Alden Dismissal Form to your child's teacher informing him/her of the days that your child will attend DSU.
Please remind your child that Alden rules apply at all times until we enter the doors of DSU. As we check our students in, they will be asked to sit quietly, refrain from opening backpacks, using electronics, toys or games. The walk to DSU is supervised by our counselors and students are asked to walk in an orderly manner; no running and always staying on the sidewalk. This will ensure a prompt check-in, a swift and safe transition to DSU.
Your Alden Child's Schedule
We will expect your child to attend DSU on the days you have marked on your registration form. Transition to DSU can be delayed if we are looking for students who are expected to attend on a given day. Plans often change as we enter the school year, so please take a moment to confirm the days your child will attend.
Also, be sure to inform us of your dismissal/pick-up arrangements. Our staff will be checking ID's in the parking lot, so please include names of people authorized to collect your child, if you have not already done so. You will have an opportunity to update this information at the walk through. To make a change in your child's schedule or pick up arrangements at any time, please email admin@duxburystudentunion.com.
Bus Forms
Families who require their Alden-aged student to take the DMS/DHS bus home from DSU must complete the Bus Transportation Form and submit it to the Alden School office by Thursday September 6th. DMS Students
Middle school students have access to DSU from 2:45 to 5:00pm daily and must sign-in as they enter the building and sign-out as they exit the building. They can plan to catch up with friends, complete homework and get homework help, and blow off steam on the playing field. With the addition of Fridays this year, even highly scheduled DMS students can enjoy lots of DSU time. Think of DSU as that "Third Place" in your student's life, home being first and school being second, like the Starbucks model. Bookmark our website for up-to-the-minute information:

Add Fridays to your child's week at DSU!

Fridays are here to stay this year at DSU. It's the best day of the week! If you registered prior to July 7th, you may want to add Fridays to your child's week. The add-on Friday pricing is as follows:
Alden One Hour $110, Alden Overtime $335, and DMS $58.
