"Jack"
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in the home of Jack Zaifman. Jack has one of the most remarkable stories a person can hear--he is a survivor of the Holocaust.
From the age of 15, for the following 5 years Jack was a prisoner in Nazi death camps, including Auschwitz and Dachau. Time after time he witnessed the atrocity of people being murdered around him. Multiple times he came to the point of of his own death, through sickness or the violence of others.
I listened as Jack told of the first day of the war on his village as his cousin was killed right next to him as they ran. Stories of long lines of people shot at random. Of a ruse where people were going to be sent to Palestine, only to be sent a couple of miles to be killed. Jack recounted his personal memories of "the angel of death," Joseph Mengela. Also the torturing games held for entertainment for the architect of Jewish extermination camps, Heinrich Himmler.
Many Holocaust survivors lost any belief in God, they renounced a God who would allow such horrific evil to occur. Not Jack! For him it was God and his trust in God which got him through each day. God not only brought him through, "for a purpose," but God also took from Jack all bitterness. I asked him about this--he said he has "forgiven all." Amazing, for a man who has every reason to hold onto bitterness, racism, resentment.
God teaches us that "if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
--Matthew 6:14-15

The Church Jesus Builds...Builds Leaders!
Godly leadership is essential to the life, health and mission of the Church! Jesus Christ spent his years of ministry on earth investing in the next generation of leaders--and He calls us to do the same. This Sunday, Pastor Wes will lead us in the fourth part of our 11-part series on Christ's plan for His Church. Please prepare your hearts by praying for God's truth and presence to be with us as we come together to worship Him! |

Student's Trip to Eastern Nazarene College
Next week, On October 9-10, some of our High School Juniors and Seniors are travelling to Eastern Nazarene College to visit the school. We want them to include our Nazarene College in their options as they plan for the next step of their education. These are incredibly important years and choices for them! However, this will cost each student about $60 each to attend. So far, we have five students signed up. If you would like to sponsor one of these students on this trip, please mark your donation "ENC Trip" (no donation is too small!!)" Thanks! Your investment in the future of the Church is greatly appreciated! Please note also that Pastors Wes and Matt will be on this trip to drive and assist our students, so they will be away from the office next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Kids and Teen News
Rejoice! The weekend is almost here! We hope that you are having a great week so far in the Lord! Here's what's going down with the Kids, Teens and Young Adults!
Youth Group as always is at 7p! Bring a friend! We have three things: food, fun and fellowship!! We can't wait to see you!
Next Wednesday, October 10, there will be no youth group because of the ENC Trip. A group of us are going to the college to see what programs they have to offer and how they could potentially get involved. If you would still like to donate to the trip, please make any cheques to Grace Community, but in the memo write ENCTrip.
Thanks to all who prayed, participated and encouraged us last Sunday for our second Youth Sunday! May God richly bless our teens (and you too!)
