From Pastor Wes "Poison Ivy & Good Memories"
The last 2 or 3 days have been somewhat uncomfortable because of a good old case of poison ivy rash. The doctor has given a strong prescription so it should be gone soon--hopefully! Growing up in my family, we would make an annual summer trek to a Lake Michigan cottage on a gorgeous peninsula with rolling hills and clear, crisp water. The cottage belonged to my Uncle Beverly and Aunt Eunice--a bit of heaven on earth with a couple of saints as hosts. The only downside of the vacation week each year was that I would almost always get a case of poison ivy--how I envy those people who have no reaction to the dreaded plant. Why did God make poison ivy, anyway? Was it part of the "The Fall"? But this familiar itch takes my me back to those wonderful, beautiful days and those wonderful, beautiful people. Uncle Beverly was a man of class and quiet wisdom. Aunt Eunice was a sweet lady dedicated to attending to our every need. A special privilege for me as a young boy was to sit between them in that church with the mustard and ketchup windows on Sunday morning as we sang hymns. They both had beautiful, trained voices and they sang the anthems with fervor and meaning. I miss them. They are now part of heaven's great choir. They are with the "great cloud of witnesses" we read about in Hebrews 12:1. "So let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Run well this week! |

Altogether there were about 50 people on each of Thursday and Friday and about 60 people on Saturday! An amazing amount of work got done, even more than was expected. There have been 18 participants from Grace Community Church--9 who went to Media and gave of their time and 9 who supported financially! What a great response--thank you so much! We'll have pictures and reports about this great project soon. Thanks for your prayer and support!
