West Michigan is Gold! The Kalamazoo-Portage area is now home to three LEED Gold-certified schools -- the only primary and secondary schools with that rating in the state of Michigan.
The WoodsEdge Learning Center in Portage has been awarded a LEED Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington, D.C. It's the first special-education facility in the United States to receive that designation.
Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is the only hospital in the state to be awarded Gold certification and one of just two dedicated childrens' hospitals in the nation to achieve this designation.

Letter from the ChairIt's official! At the May USGBC national Board of Directors meeting it was announced that the West Michigan Chapter now includes the Upper Peninsula and Ingham County. Now all counties of Michigan are served by a chapter, and Lansing and East Lansing are no longer split between chapters. Welcome!
Reminder to all chapter members to visit www.usgbc.org/leed2012 to review and make public comments during the 4th LEED Public Comment period (May 11- May 28) for LEED 2012 before the final draft is published. Opt-in ballot voting on the final draft will take place starting June 1 and will close June 30. The chapter will be offering a LEED 2012 launch meeting later this year. Kris Ford, LEED AP B+COwen-Ames-Kimball Co.
