Mission:

To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, in a way that improves the quality of life in West Michigan

Letter From the Chair

USGBC West Michigan's mission is to:

To transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, in a way that improves the quality of life in West Michigan

Last month I focused on education and outreach as ways to carry out our mission. Another way to meet our mission is to offer networking opportunities.

There are many opportunities to network at our quarterly educational events, monthly Interest Circle meetings and other social events held throughout the year. Another great way of meeting people is to get involved with a committee.  I can not even begin to count the connections I have made and the opportunities created over the past six years from being active in our Chapter. A new opportunity that is taking shape is our Young Professionals group. A which will have a kick-off meeting will be held in the fall.

Networking is key to growth; personally and professionally. It allows you to exchange ideas possibly resulting in new business or ideas. Networking is a skill. If you make an effort to get out, put aside any nervous feeling, you can build a good reputation and your self-esteem. People will eventually seek you out!

So how does networking help USGBC West Michigan reach our mission? The knowledge and success stories that we share help spread the word of the benefits of green buildings. Word of mouth can be our best advertising! Our green building movement has been grass roots and by networking we will continue to reach more and more people.

Please take advantage of networking opportunities in the upcoming year!

Mark Your Calendars for CEU Palooza

On Friday, October 14, USGBC West Michigan will be presenting an extraordinary event - CEU Palooza! At this all day event you'll be able to choose classes that fit your needs. Not only will you increase your knowledge of green building practices but you'll be earning CEU credits. Each class equals one CEU credit.

By attending the CEU Palooza LEED Professionals can maintain their credits.  Credential maintenance is the continuing education completed by LEED Professionals to maintain current knowledge of green building practices and LEED. Credential maintenance requirements ensure the LEED Professional Credentials maintain their relevance and significance in a constantly evolving industry. LEED Professional Credentials demonstrate current knowledge of green building technologies, best practices, and the rapidly evolving LEED Rating Systems. They show differentiation in a growing and competitive industry, and they allow for varied levels of specialization.

Southwest Branch to offer LEED GA Study Group in September

Starting September 13, the U.S. Green Building Council Southwest Michigan Branch is offering a facilitated study group to prepare individuals for the challenging LEED Green Associate (GA) Examination. Classes begin September 13 through October 25. Facilitated classes will meet bi-weekly from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the following dates:

1) September 13, 2011
