December 08!

PortraitI fell into the food business because of my love and passion for entertaining.  In trying to make each party I hosted more spectacular than the last, I started attending  professional food shows looking for new ingredients, table settings and unique cutlery. At one show I sourced an industrial fridge that could hold oversized hors d'ouvres and dessert trays, 6 bottles of wine, and two cases of imported beer! I was in love!

December has always been my favourite month of the year. It is a time of festivities and also my birthday. I love Christmas as families get together to celebrate with loved ones and no one is worried about their waistlines as they indulge in their favourite food.

I never need an excuse to throw a party! I love to have friends over whenever I can and will do everything to make sure they are enjoying themselves including singing to them after dinner.

I love surprises and planning them allows me to get a little creative.  It is a thrill watching the reaction of my guests.  One of my favourite entertaining memories was from an April Fool's Day dinner. As my guests entered the dining room after enjoying cocktails in the garden, they each found an Hermes box placed in front of each of them. I could see they were eager to open their present. Who wouldn't be? On my go ahead they tore open their boxes, eager and expectant for the opulent gift that must surely be inside. Instead, each guest found a simple dollar store item.  Everyone had a wonderful laugh and we enjoyed the rest of the evening full of laughter and fun.

When you invite people to your home, you invite them into yourself.  The one gift I truly love to give, is friendship love, and laughter all over a great meal.  Happy Holidays,

We all know that one person who throws a Christmas party EVERY year. They could be having the worst possible seek, and would still be on the phone with caterers, potential guests, ect. This person might even just be you.

If it is, that's great! A person with such dedication to holiday parties is someone to be admired. And if maybe you are not, and are bearing the burden of having one this year, I've compiled a list of things to do that's adult, fun and exciting.

Table topic cards
A great way to find stuff out about your friends, usually questions you'd never think to ask. A great conversation starter and discussion.

Secret Santa
Gets creative. Everyone loves gifts. An inexpensive gift basket,  who knows. Each guest brings a gift, unmarked and it gets passed around.

Karaoke
Preferably after you've all eaten, and are relaxed. By then you won't care what anyone thinks and really go all out. Good for a chuckle or two.
Tricks of the Trade
Uplifting the Canned Cranberry
Cranberry Sauce
If you must use the usual tin of Ocean spray cranberry sauce (because of the perceived convenience).

Take it to another level try these tricks:
  • Add Q Gourmet Smokey BBQ
  • Add Chaloner Seville Orange Marmalade
  • Make Cranberry Kiss: Take the cranberry sauce and whirl in blender. A package of cream cheese and cream it, mix in the cranberries. Add 1-2 cups Whipped Topping. Put into individual clear bowls or fancy clear glass. Top with nuts/cookie crumbs of your choice.

Words to live By
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world,
I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow airport.

General opinion makes out that we live in a world of hatred and greed I don't see that.

Seems to me that love is everywhere.
Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy but it's always there.
Fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends.

When the planes hit the Twin Towers,
none of the phone calls from people on board were messages of hate or revenge, they were all messages of love.

lf you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
