Dear Friends:

Someone once said "if you want to hide something from a Black person, put it in a book." We believe this is nonsense. At Community Healing Network, we are about smashing all the negative stereotypes of Black people. And one of the most damaging is the stereotype that Black people don't read. We know that there has been a phenomenal growth in Black book clubs--and that many Black people are voracious readers.

So we invite you to help build the movement for emancipation from the lie of Black inferiority by launching a Community Healing Reading Club during Community Healing Days, October 14, 15, and 16, 2011.

It's easy. Just invite a small group of family and friends to get together--and start reading and discussing books designed to deepen our collective understanding of the impact of our history on our emotions and our relationships. Here is CHN's list of must-read books for emotional emancipation and healing:

Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority
by Tom Burrell

What Mama Couldn't Tell Us About Love: Healing the Emotional Legacy of Racism by Celebrating Our Light
by Brenda Lane Richardson and Dr. Brenda Wade

What's Love Got to Do With It: Understanding & Healing
the Rift Between Black Men & Women
by Donna L. Franklin

Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We're Not Hurting
by Terrie M.Williams

Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery
by Dr. Na'im Akbar

Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome
Dr. Joy DeGruy

The celebration of Community Healing Days will not end on October 16. It will keep going through the efforts of the people who will establish local community healing circles. And it can keep going through your community healing reading club.

Let's keep the celebration going. Let's smash the stereotype about Black people as "non-readers" by reading books that will help us smash all the other negative stereotypes about Black people.

Defy the Lie! To register your Community Healing Reading Club, please email us at chnhealing@gmail.com.
