QUESTION
Did you know that the United States Senate and the House of
Representatives have both apologized for slavery and Jim Crow?
MESSAGE
They didn't make major headlines. The discussion did not dominate the media talk shows, like
so many other topics do. But on July 29, 2008, the House of Representatives of
the United States passed a resolution apologizing "to African-Americans on
behalf of the people of the United States, for the wrongs committed against
them and their ancestors..." On June 18, 2009, the Senate of the United States
passed a similar resolution
Both houses of the Congress
of the United States have finally acknowledged that "African Americans continue
to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow... through enormous
damage and loss, both tangible and intangible."
The Community Healing Network is focused on helping to heal the "intangible"
damage and loss caused to Black people by the myth of Black inferiority--the
myth introduced centuries ago to justify the enslavement and subjugation of
Black people.
It's time for us to finally unburden ourselves. It's time for us to confront and work to
overcome the myth of Black inferiority.
Just imagine how much more we and our children will be able to
accomplish when we finally free ourselves--not only in body, but also in mind
and in spirit.
