Dine with an Artist!
Pagliacci

Ever wanted to dine with an Opera Omaha star?  Now is your chance! There are several mainstage artists who still need sponsors for our upcoming production of The Marriage of Figaro.  You can select your favorite returning artist like Kevin Short (last seen as Ramfis in the Catherine Ferguson-designed production of Aida), Maureen Francis (fondly remembered for her Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance), and Mark Calvert (Beppe in Pagliacci) or you can choose an artist who is making their Opera Omaha debut like our Figaro, Jason Hardy, and our Cherubino, Daniela Mack.

Artist sponsorships start at just $5,000.  Dinner with "your" sponsored artist is just one of the many exciting donor benefits that Opera Omaha offers to our artist underwriters.

Please contact Sarah Uhrich, Director of Development, for more information about sponsorship opportunities and donor benefits at (402) 346-4398 x106 or suhrich@operaomaha.org.

I've been preparing the past couple of weeks for the January 11 Mozart 101 - "What Mozart Effect?" and the preview for the January 16 MET HD - Carmen broadcast, so while I usually write to you about the business of our art, today I'm immersed in the art part of this business.

Opera Omaha E-News!
Happy New Year from Opera Omaha!

We cannot believe it is 2010!  It seems just like yesterday that we were starting our season off in July.  Our performance of Das Barbecü at the Mutual Of Omaha's Wild About Omaha Festival was performed in July on the hottest day of the year.  It was in the 90's and our performers worked tirelessly in the heat, entertaining everyone who stopped by our area outside of the Kaneko.  Thinking about this does warm us a bit on this day, the coldest day of winter, when windchills are reaching 30-40 degrees BELOW zero.

We hope you are staying warm on this cold winter's day, maybe sitting by the fire, and maybe thinking about Opera Omaha.  There are a lot of events this month including Mozart 101, MetHD Previews at FilmStreams, and the Opera Omaha Guild's brand new happening, Spirits of the Opera. Read on to learn more about all the exciting things Opera Omaha is offering.

Even more exciting is that by the end of the month our artists for The Marriage of Figaro arrive in Omaha to begin rehearsals.  Garnett Bruce, Artistic Adviser of Opera Omaha, will be directing!

Meanwhile - be safe.

32nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors
Grace Bumbry The 2009 Kennedy Center Honors included Grace Bumbry, Mezzo-Soprano

From the Kennedy Center Website

"Her obsession with singing began when she was still a child. That obsession--together with a ravishing natural voice, an extraordinary talent, and unwavering determination--led to one of the most illustrious operatic careers of the 20th century. What's more, when most eras can boast four or perhaps five superstar sopranos and even fewer superstar mezzo-sopranos, for more than three decades and for millions of opera lovers in the United States and around the world, Grace Bumbry was both. Her unique sound and her gripping stage presence, once experienced, simply cannot be forgotten."
