Press Release For Immediate Release

John Wehrle, Opera Omaha General Director, States,
"We Shall Stand Strong"

Omaha, NE - October 13, 2008

Opera Omaha's production of The Pirates of Penzance is set to run this Wednesday, Oct 15 with two additional performances on Friday, October 17 and Sunday, October 19 at the Orpheum Theater.  The company began promoting the show around 'International Talk Like a Pirate Day' asking folks to Talk Like a Pirate [video] for tickets; download the [Metro Area Treasure map] off the website and invited families to Party like Pirates at a fundraising event put on by the Opera Omaha Guild.  "This is such a fun show, we wanted everyone to get into the spirit of the show - to be a Pirate," states Kelly Blice, Director of Marketing.  "When we found out that our marketing efforts upset the Pirates, we were just shocked."

The Pirates allegedly broke-in to the Opera Omaha office on October 2nd and stole the company's [Fat Lady] doll to protest the misrepresentation of their image and brand.  A list of four demands was left by the Pirates in a [Ransom Note].   On Friday, October 10th, a company official made a direct appeal to the general public for advice on the next step.
