Committing to Action

Heather Remer of the International Network for Children and Families continues her discussion on building family team with a focus on committing to action.  Heather writes, "Families that don't commit to taking action in their families often don't have clear priorities or a sense of direction.  You might see one person who takes on the majority of the responsibility for the family.  We know who that person is because they are the ones that miss important appointments, run late for things a lot and always feel stressed.  Families who don't commit to action may have a very hard time making decisions as a family. They may have the same discussions again and again, or may fear failing."  Heather's suggestions for committing to action as a family can turn that around.

15 Adventurous Things to Do With Kids

Ten Things to NOT say to Parent of Preemies

Dr. Richard Shaw, a Stanford professor of psychiatry and pediatrics, writes, "The birth of a premature infant is an extraordinarily stressful and often traumatic experience in the life of a family."   In a recent study, "a majority of the preemie mothers said that hurtful comments had added to their feelings of stress and isolation, and a fifth lost important relationships as a result."  Learn what to say and what not to say to parents of preemies. Click Here to read more

Routines with Printable Cards

Christie Burnett of Childhood 101 writes, "Literacy is essential to everyday life.  We are surrounded by text in our homes, shops, schools, even our streets.  Looking for opportunities for children to engage with elements of literacy in their everyday lives helps them to learn that these funny symbols we call letters can be used to represent places, people, things and ideas."  Here is a way to include literacy with learning daily routines and printable cards are included.  Click Here to read more
A Hero's Journey
By Wes Hopper

One of the classic themes of literature is called "the hero's journey."  In it, an unlikely and unprepared person is given a seemingly impossible task on which the fate of the world depends.  No pressure there, eh?  If you've read, or seen "The Lord of the Rings", you've been exposed to this story line in modern form.  If you've never seen the 3 movies, you should.  They're spectacular!

Frodo, the hobbit, is the classic hero.  He's not a warrior and he didn't ask for the job.  His tag-along buddy, Sam, is even less prepared.  In the course of 9 hours of film we get to see both of them dig deep to find powers they never knew they had.  That's the message for all of us from every hero's journey story.  It's our life played out for us showing that adversity is our opportunity to uncover the powers we never knew were there.

When we realize this, we can welcome the challenges and use them to stretch ourselves, to discover our real strength.  It's not easy.  It's hard work.  And it's worth it.  Like Frodo and Sam we are transformed by the experience in very fundamental and powerful ways.  And that's good!

Stress and Military Families

The Institute of HeartMath says, "Moving frequently is cited as one of life's greatest stressors, especially for children, but for military families, who typically can expect to move an average of every three years, the effects are magnified.  And yet, moving is only one of many stressors that affect military families, particularly in times of war, when fathers and mothers deploy to combat zones and are liable to be away from loved ones for as much as an entire year."  Read HeathMath's steps for reducing stress which are terrific for all families.  Click Here to read more

Inspirational Quote of the Week

Freedom to Be

A Life Embracing Experience

Have you ever said that you want to be close to your spouse - or your child or your sister or your mother - and yet the two of you spend a great deal of time fighting?   Are you curious about why what you say you want isn't what you are getting? Is blame a part of your family life?   Does your teen shun responsibility, fear making mistakes or do things that are not in his own best interest?  In the Freedom to Be Course (formerly called LYO or Loving Yourself and Others),  you discover what is standing in the way of getting what you desire and how to live based on your true values and beliefs.

Freedom to Be is a highly liberating experience, and over the weekend of July 15, the course will be in Pembroke Pines, Florida.  This is a wonderful course to share as a family.  Older teens may attend, and there is a family rate.

The Freedom to Be Course from Your Infinite Life Training and Coaching Company will provide you with tools to feel and act based upon your true values and beliefs. You will also learn and practice unique ways of being empathetic to others, by learning the process of blame, how to let go of blaming and to knowing what to do when you are being blamed. By becoming acutely aware of what underlies your actions, you can become comfortable with all aspects of yourself and of others which allows you to see yourself and others truthfully and with great compassion.  By connecting with your deepest intentions to love and be loved you will experience a new sense of freedom and power to create the relationships you desire. Don't Miss the Chance to Open Your Heart and Create More Closeness in ALL of your Relationships!

I invite you to attend in July to increase your capacity to love and be loved, to expand your self-acceptance and to enhance your empathy.  Embrace your life - this fleeting time we share on earth - and enjoy your Freedom to Be!

Redirecting Children's Behavior is a powerful course designed to help you create the family of your dreams. The course creates family wellness by incorporating positive parenting skills that establish healthy emotional and physical aspects of ALL family members.  I have taught lunch 'n learns at work locations, coaching in homes, and workshops/courses because when parents have the skills they need they are able to establish stability and wellness in both their home and work environments.

Redirecting Children's Behavior (RCB) gives parents, grandparents, teachers, and any person involved with children, fast, effective ways to become calmer, more confident and to teach their children to be responsible and cooperative. The easy-to-learn, positive techniques allow adults to redirect children's behavior through loving guidance rather than ineffective punishment. Participants will learn tips on using logical consequences, setting limits, and achieving peaceful resolution of conflicts.
