PTO hosts a memorable Festival of Lights celebration
Many thanks to Alison Blyth, Lynn & Kevin Hickey, Kajul & Sanjay Kapura, Kristie Hurley, John Gause, Gayle Rush, Patricia Rivera and Sheila Bravo for making our Festival of Lights dinner celebration a memorable evening. More than 60 people attended and enjoyed an Indian meal. It was our first sit-down, white tablecloth dinner at the school - and it was fabulous! We are also grateful to Dr. Jani for sharing the story behind the Festival of Lights. We unveiled the school's vision and values. | |

Updates from the PTO |
It's parade time...
Our tradition at The Jefferson School is to make a holiday float one year and a march in the parade the next. This year, each child will dress as a train car. We will string together each family's effort to make a Jefferson "Get on Board" train. Please see blue folder for details. Return reply requested by Friday, Nov. 14. For more information contact Lynn Hickey at lynnhickey@verizon.net or 645-6467.

Tuesday, November 18 - Flu Shots Nanticoke Health Services will visit our school to provide influenza shots to anyone 18 or older. Flu shots are recommended yearly to help prevent flu-related illness, decrease illness severity, and prevent complications which could include pneumonia and death. Cost $20. Please call the office to sign up.
Thursday, November 20 - Universal Children's Day
The Jefferson School is celebrating Universal Children's Day, a day set aside to show children that they are valued members of society. On November 20, 1959, the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child spelling out specific rights to which all children should be entitled. Countries around the world commemorate Universal Children's Day. It should serve to remind all of us that children need love and respect to grow to their full potential.
At school, we plan to present children with gifts and organize games for them to play. We also want to raise awareness about the needs of children, focusing on how those living in poverty are often denied basic rights. As a call to action, we will start to collect items that could be useful for children in local homeless shelters.
Thursday, November 20 from 5-6 p.m. -
Special Workshop on SATs
This year, the school has moved to centralized scanning. To assist parents in reading and interpreting the new format, Lisa Crim and John Gause will hold a special one-hour workshop. If you need child care, please call or e-mail Beverly Wenner.
