Annual Giving: Why Does Participation Matter?

TJS' annual giving campaign has begun.  This year, the school needs $100,000 to meet its objectives.   Annual giving is vital for an independent private school.  We don't receive state funds or financial support from other organizations.  According to the National Association of Independent Schools, 30% of the income at independent day schools -- on average -- is drawn from non-tuition sources such as annual giving.  At TJS, 17% comes from fundraising and annual giving.  Each year, the school has successfully grown its fundraising capabilities.  With this trend, we can keep tuition from rising as we have confidence in our ability to raise the additional funds necessary to operate the school.

A really important factor in achieving our annual giving target is "participation."  This measures the percentage of families who give a gift of any size to the school.  Participation matters greatly. It effects how foundations and other grant-making organizations view the school.  They consider participation rates before agreeing to donate funds to a school.  Participation level is considered a vote of confidence of the school's mission.  We have 100% participation from The Jefferson School board of trustees.  We hope that a similar participation level among parents will inspire other potential donors in the community. The more people who give, the closer we come to achieving our goal.

As Sussex County's only independent private school, we are truly fortunate to have talented teachers, committed and active parents and a vibrant school community.  Our students learn and grow in a safe environment, where they gain the self-confidence to be successful in whatever endeavor they achieve.  Please help the school achieve its goal of 100% participation this year.
