In November ARCE's Luxor office moved to the west bank of the Nile in support of a new initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development.

Capitalizing on the success of our ongoing operations in Karnak's Khonsu Temple and Luxor Temple, ARCE is in the early stages of a new project that aims to employ large numbers of local Egyptians who have been hard-hit by Egypt's recent economic downturn.

Luigi De Cesaris, Rome, Italy, June 2011
2011, contributed a significant part of his professional life to ARCE's wall painting conservation projects. Following the death in 2004 of his colleague Adriano Luzi, who had led the Italian conservation team in Egypt since the beginning of work at St. Anthony's Monastery in 1996, Luigi took on the role of team leader. Luigi dedicated himself with enormous energy to the success of ARCE's work in cultural heritage preservation. With his death, Egypt has lost a highly skilled conservator and ARCE a committed colleague as well as a devoted friend.

Behind the Scenes with ARCE
Photo:Historic Cairo

Picture Cairo during the most important Eid of the year. Weddings at the hotel every night. Brightly lit party boats cruising the Nile. Light traffic (if you can imagine it) in Garden City. Cool mornings and warm afternoons greeted us each day along with the sounds of celebration and leisure each evening. Read more about the trip>>
