VIRGINIA SENIOR GAMES
One sport growing in popularity for people of all ages in the Northern Neck is Pickleball. Pickleball is a
court-game that combines elements of traditional tennis and table tennis. The sport is fast-paced and
played with a perforated plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood paddles. A Pickleball court is smaller in size than a traditional tennis court and the game is frequently played in doubles. It provides a fun atmosphere where you can get in a work-out and have some enjoyable fellowship in the process. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, competitive game for experienced players.

Recently, seventeen Pickleball players representing the Northern Neck Family YMCA participated in the Virginia Senior Games on May 10-11 in Richmond. Twelve of those participants competed and won medals.

Pictured above (left to right) are YMCA Members Craig Bosmans, Steph Jewell, Mike Conroy, Alice Pope, Jim Edwards, Jim Eury, & Pat Rosinski with their winning medals.

MASTERS SWIMMING

Camaraderie is one of the most important components of Masters Swimming. We swim better, faster, and include many fun activities in or out of the water. Whether personal goals include competition or not, all swimmers are part of the whole team and offer their own special contributions. Mutual encouragement and support are an integral part of the Masters experience.

Practices are organized having specific objectives and tailored to the abilities of individuals. No need to be an accomplished swimmer, just the ability to swim two lengths of the pool without rest, plus the fitness to do additional swimming with rest, are required. For more information and pricing, contact Northern Neck Family YMCA (804) 435-0223 or coach Kathryn Gregory (804) 462-5608.

Bright Beginnings is Tuesday and Thursday, August 14 and 16.  Volunteer to shop, sponsor a child for $150, or make a donation of school supplies.  Contact Donna McGrath at donna.mcgrath@peninsulaymca.org for more information.
